Showing posts with label anniversary
On May 30th, 2020 this blog turned 8 years old. It was also the day that protests and violence erupted across the nation and the world in response to George Floyd's horrifying murder. It didn't' feel right to celebrate at that time and honestly, I was completely ridden with anxiety and very overwhelmed at that moment in time so I couldn't wrap my head around writing.

Even though that was over a month ago, it feels like it was just yesterday. The days in Quarantine are going fast but I didn't want this year to end without me acknowledging my blog's anniversary.

Over the past seven months, I've changed a lot. Things have happened in my life that I never expected and the world isn't what I expected. Throughout it all, I've thought about what I want my life to be and where I want to end up and it all comes back to the blog.

When I started Royally Pink I was going into my junior year of college. I was Vice President of my sorority, moving in with new roommates, and ready for the year ahead. I was thinking more about internships and my career, I wanted to get more serious about my writing and prepare myself as best I could for the real world.

I never imagined that I would be here, 8 years later, with a dream job in social media, still living at home, single, and in the middle of a pandemic. I don't know what I thought my life was going to be when I was 19 years old but it probably wasn't what life is now.

In 8 years a lot has happened to me and for me... some good, some bad and all life-changing:

  • I fell deeper in love with my college, my sorority, and my friends
  • I fell in love with a boy and fought like hell for him
  • I became Sorority Woman of the Year
  • I got a byline in USA Today and other outlets before I even graduated
  • I graduated from college and fell into a horrible depression
  • I got my first job at a social media agency
  • I left there for my first job in the beauty industry as a social media manager
  • My dad died and my world was turned upside down
  • I started getting published in more outlets like Popsugar, Elite Daily, Reader's Digest, and The Newsette
  • I left my job in the beauty industry and after two weeks, got fired from my new job
  • I was unemployed for six months and learned more about what I want out of life than ever before
  • I had my first real relationship with a man I cared deeply about
  • I became a freelance writer for Fab Fit Fun
  • I found a new dream job at another beauty brand in social media
  • My aunt died this year and left my family in shambles
  • My boyfriend of a year and a half dumped me over a text message
  • A global pandemic happened and changed everyone and everything forever
In between, I lost friends, gained friends, watched my friends get their heartbroken, and watched them get engaged. I saw my mom find love, cried with my friends over everything and anything, handed out advice about career, boys, and life. I read books, became true crime obsessed, and had multiple crises.

At the end of it all though, my blog was here. You were here. You watched me grow, learn, mess up, and fail. I don't know where I would be without this blog, without my outlet, without somewhere to put my energy into.

When I didn't know what to do, I always knew I could count on Royally Pink to guide me and keep me busy, to keep me sane.

As we enter the 8th year of this blog, I finally think I have my thoughts together. I've struggled over the years with wanting to make this something more... to be like the other influencers who get paid sponsorships and can make a living off the blog. I want this to be a real community, I want to treat this not only as a passion project but as a business... that's how much I love Royally Pink.

I've already made strides within the past few weeks and I'm really proud of myself. I think if I actually focus, I can do this. Quarantine has been good for that...I have more time to figure out what I want this place to be, where I want my life to be, and honestly, I think I have a good grip on that.

8 years ago, I never thought I'd be here but I love the journey. I'm so grateful that 8 years later, I'm still here and you're still here with me.

Thank you for all the love and support over the years. Thank you for reading, for following, and for sticking around through the hard times. I cannot express how happy you all make me.

To celebrate, below are some of my favorite blog posts to date, that has taken me through all aspects of life.

Thank you for the past 8 years. Here's to 800 more!

This was an extremely fast week and I have another 3 day weekend on my hands -- summer fridays are THE BEST.

I have a few things on the agenda: a keratin hair treatment, a trip to the new NYX store near my house, and a Sephora VIB event. They are all beauty related, and all very exciting. I'm also going to be grabbing dinner with my friends tonight and I'm super excited.

All in all, a traditional Briana weekend.

This is how I started the week off...#blessed

If you missed it this week, I'm celebrating FOUR years of Royally Pink and honoring that with a huge beauty & skincare giveaway. You can enter here.

Also, if you're looking for some new jewelry, Chloe + Isabel launched their new summer collection last week and it's so colorful and perfect for summer. I'm excited! Shop here!

What did you love this week?

I've posted about Sex and the City and Carrie Bradshaw quite a few times on the blog but lately, I've been feeling very much more 'Carrie' like. Maybe it's because in less than three months I'll be living the post grad life and trying to find my way, aspiring to be Carrie Bradshaw.

Or maybe it's because the internet has suddenly rediscovered Carrie and Co. There have been so many articles/discussions about 'Sex and the City' lately, I can't even keep up! I think most of that has to do with Sarah Jessica Parker's new shoe line and the fact that it's been 10 years since the iconic show ended (February 22nd, 2004 was the last air date).

Everyone is always and probably will always analyze SATC. It was such an important show, it changed the way women viewed their careers, friendships, sex and relationships. It changed the face of television and in a way, gave women more power than ever before. It gave women a voice to talk about whatever they wanted, even if it was a bit embarrassing.

I was never allowed to watch 'Sex and the City' growing up. It was too risque so my mom would shut her door and afterwards, I was allowed back into the room. It was only four years ago, right before the second movie came out, that I watched the entire series and the first film, in only three weeks. I was completely and utterly enthralled by Carrie's lifestyle and knew immediately that she was who I wanted to be.

Yes, she is selfish and whiny at times. Yes, she cheated on Aiden with Mr.Big and at times, she wasn't a good friend but hey, no one is perfect. I connect with Carrie Bradshaw on so many levels and honestly, she is my role model. There is no one I love more than Carrie.

I think Sex and the City is such an important, iconic show for all the reasons I already listed. It put fashion in the front row, right behind sex. No other show truly goes where SATC goes and at the same time, it's so entertaining.

SATC isn't real; Girls is the real version of our four lovely NYC ladies. SATC is the dream while Girls is the reality. It's okay that Carrie is a freelance sex columnist and can afford multiple pairs of Manolos. Something doesn't have to be relatable to be true, entertaining and fun.

I think SATC is something that is going to live on forever. It has survived the past ten years and has inspired new generations of Carrie's, Charlotte's, Miranda's and Samantha's. There is something for everyone in Sex and the City. You can always find a little inspiration in every single episode, and that says wonders for a show based around the taboo topic of sex.

A lot of people criticize the show because they feel that it focuses too much on the relationships between men and women; people say that Carrie and Co rely too much on the need of a good man. I think that's totally wrong. Yes, the show revolves around the relationships between the girls and their men but most importantly, the show is about friendship and finding out who you truly are as a woman. Carrie gets her heart broken, as do the rest of the gals but in the end, in true SATC fashion, they have each other.

"Don't laugh at me, but maybe we could be each other's soul mates. Then we could let men be just these great, nice guys to have fun with."

It goes places that it shouldn't, talking about topics that may make you uncomfortable if you watch an episode with your dad. But it's also so glamorous, enthralling and inspiring. It has a quote for every mood or situation, Carrie gets a book deal and writes for Vogue, Miranda is a powerful lawyer that doesn't let the glass ceiling stand in her way. This isn't just a show about sex, it's about women.

Whether you love Aiden or Mr. Big, love or hate Samantha's antics or think Carrie Bradshaw is overrated, you cannot deny that Sex and the City has totally inspired and changed the way we as women look at the world around us.

Not to mention all the shoes....

What are your opinions on Sex and the City?

I always see bloggers doing weekend recap and I always find it interesting to see their personal lives debuted on their blog. I always strayed away from doing those types of posts because this was never a really "personal" blog, rather much so I portrayed it as a lifestyle blog.

I feel like I've been getting more personal lately with my posts about mental breakdowns and being stressed out so I thought that when something exciting happens in my personal life, I should be able to showcase it here, especially if it's something important to me.

This weekend was one celebrated with my beloved sorority. As much as being Vice President and a senior has been stressing me out, it's weekends like this that really make it all worth while and make me realize what it means to be part of Phi Sigma Sigma.

On Saturday, it was quite the eventful day. We initiated eight beautiful, incredible new women who are now part of my beloved Delta Nu Chapter. It was a beautiful initiation ceremony and I was so proud to be part of it.

Saturday night, we celebrated our Centennial anniversary of Phi Sigma Sigma as a chapter. I planned a Centennial Banquet with active sisters and alumnae. November 26th marks Phi Sig's 100 year anniversary and this was a great way to commemorate the incredible milestone.

It was a lot of fun and great to see everyone!

The weekend was very busy but so much fun. I can't imagine a better way to spend my days!

What did you do this weekend?
