Brand Buzz: Drybar

in , , , , by RoyallyPink, 6:00 AM

I've spoken extensively over the years about my love of Drybar but I've never done a full Brand Buzz aka brand overview about them.

Drybar has been on my radar for a while... at least 4 years because that's when I went to Drybar for the first time. However, I think my love affair with the brand had been a year or two longer than that. I've used their products for a long time and am pretty obsessed with the idea and branding of the entire brand, from the salon to the accessories to the tools and products. It's ingenious and I've learned so much about the idea behind it from listening to interviews with Alli Webb.

I've been a little obsessed with my hair during quarantine because I feel like it's been changing and I figured that now is as good a time as any to share my favorite items from the brand.

Somewhere in the middle of quarantine, my hair started to change. I don't know if it was because I was stuck inside (is that even a thing?) or something else but my goodness, my hair was annoying the crap out of me.

It was very dry, brittle, and tangly but at the same time, it was also getting greasy. It didn't really make any sense to me but it was noticeable because my mom even said that my hair looked extremely dull. I was also not using any heat on it and letting it dry curly whenever I washed it so perhaps it needed some heat?

Whatever it was, I was on a mission to try and fix it. When my hair doesn't feel or look good, it really ruins my entire day. If I had to go an entire year without makeup but I could do my hair, I would be ok with that. My hair has always been a sore subject for me and has made me feel really self-conscious so having it in order is a priority for me.

Once I realized there was an issue, I went on the hunt for products that would be able to help. Whenever I have a beauty issue, my first order of business is always Sephora & Ulta's websites.

I knew that I needed some heavy-duty hydration and thought about products I had used in the past. My solution came in the form of three different products, two out of three which I have used before but when I combined them together, the results were magical.

SheaMoisture Manuka Honey & Yogurt Hydrate + Repair Protein Power Treatment

I mentioned this product in my Black-Owned Beauty Brand post but it needs further explanation. I had previously tried a foil packet of this pre-shower treatment and fell in love. I never purchased the full size but now that I was in desperate need of it, I sought it out. All I do is apply a scoopful all over my dry hair before I shower and let it sit for about 15-20 minutes. When I get into the shower, I wash it out and continue to shampoo and condition as normal. However, the difference it makes in my hair post-wash is outstanding. My hair is noticeably shinier, softer, and easier to style. My hair just feels so much better when I use this treatment and when I don't use it, I can tell. I think the combination of the honey & yogurt is something special yet, it's gentle on my hair while restoring hydration. It's magical!

Drybar Bay Breeze Hydrating Shots

I used these a few years back but never repurchased for one reason: they are expensive. For 4 shots (which is 4 uses), they cost $38 but this time around, I got them during the VIB Rouge sale and it was worth it. I knew my hair needed the extra hydration so to me, they were a necessity. After shampooing, you spray an entire bottle onto your hair and scalp, let it sit for up to 5 minutes and then rinse out. Instantly, your hair is less tangled and more hydrated. When I use these, I don't use an additional conditioner in the shower because I feel as if they do the job. It just revives the moisture in my hair and helps make it more manageable. The shots have Apricot Kernel Oil which helps condition each strand of hair, Sage Leaf Extract and Candelilla Extract to revive the shine and gloss in your hair. I don't use a shot every time I wash my hair but after one shot, I notice a huge difference. They're suitable for all types of hair and if you struggle with dryness and brittleness, I couldn't recommend this enough.

Living Proof No Frizz Leave-In Conditioner

Deep down, I knew the answer to my hair woes was a leave-in conditioner. I hadn't been using one for quite some time because I ran out and never repurchased so a new one was definitely in my future. After much debating and a realization that summer humidity & frizz was on the horizon, I decided to try the Living Proof No Frizz Leave-In Conditioner. I hadn't used this before but I had used the No Frizz line so I knew I was in good hands. I apply a quarter size of the conditioner in my damp hair, let it air dry a little bit, and then blowdry straight. There isn't frizz in sight afterward so it is definitely working!

When I use all of these products together, my hair looks and feels so much better! It's healthier, shinier, and feels so good. Right now, this is my holy grail trio but below are some more hair care items I love & use frequently!

For the past few summers, I've gotten a keratin treatment to help my unruly hair. The Keratin Treatment straightened and relaxed my hair so that styling was easier and it didn't frizz in the humid, hot weather. It was a blessing and completely changed my life.

The reason I continued to get the treatment is that I loved my straight hair and it was easier to achieve the look I wanted if I had it. However, this past winter I really fell in love with my curly hair and felt a little more like myself with it.

I started using my Kiss Instawave Curling Iron more and embraced my natural locks, probably because my natural hair has changed significantly over the past two years. Gone are the unruly, wild Carrie Bradshaw curls and hello to soft, beachy waves. My hair dries the way I wished for it to dry for years and I'm not sure how it happened.

I didn't want to give up my new found hair so I decided against the Keratin treatment and it was a great decision. I haven't had any problems with my hair and it pretty much comes out exactly how I want it each time.

Some days I curl my hair with the iron, some days I use a product to keep the natural curl alive for a few days and others I just go all natural to give my hair a break. The products I use are curl defying creams, detanglers, and no frizz to keep everything under control.

No curling iron, just Bumble and Bumble 'Don't Blow It'

Curling Iron

I wanted to give you the rundown on how I keep my hair summer ready and below are the products I've been using all summer long!

Hair Products I'm Using This Summer

My hair has been a mess lately. If we're being honest, it's been a mess my entire life. I've said before how my hair is curly, frizzy, and very unruly. Because of this, I am always on the search for something new and exciting -- a product that will blow the socks off of me and change my hair.

I did a post like this last summer but I've since found different products that work just as well. Lately, my hair has felt fried, dry, and stiff so the following products have been helping me keep that feeling at bay.

1. Ouai Rose Hair & Body Oil: I've always been very honest with my love of all things rose scented so when I got this in the Vogue x Birchbox Limited Edition box, I was thrilled. I'm always in the market for a new oil and this one really helps to moisturize my hair and to tame the frizz and fly aways. I also love how this is a travel size because I keep it in my work bag for when the humidity gets a little crazy when I'm on my commute. I don't use oil in my hair when it's wet because I feel like it makes my hair a tad bit too greasy but after it's styled, I always finish off with this oil. *I have yet to try it on my body but I'm sure it's fabulous.

2. Ouai Wave Spray: I don't think I talked about this last summer but I really should've. I alternated between this and the Bumble and Bumble Don't Blow It cream, but I think I might like this more. When I'm   rocking curly hair, I will spray this in wet hair and then sleep on it. I wake up in the morning with full, soft curls and waves. It doesn't leave my hair oily, greasy, or stiff -- it's so good. I have been loving everything I've tried from Ouai and I really want to try more because the products are SO GOOD.

3. Eva NYC Therapy Session Hair Mask: I can't tell you how many of these I've gone through. I have consistently using deep conditioners and hair masks as a regular conditioner for years now and this I think has been my favorite. It has a wonderful price tag of $11-$14 depending on if it's on sale at Ulta, and it take a while to go through. It's very thick, very hydrating, but does not weigh down your hair. It leaves my hair very smooth, shiny, and perfectly conditioned.

4. Drybar Prep Rally Prime & Prep Detangler: Drybar is still one of my favorite hair brands and I still have a lot of their products (and need to buy their newer products) but this is a must-have for me. It's so good my sister kept stealing it from me, and my bottle is now finished. I need to buy more and I'm thinking me not using this is why my hair has felt weird lately. Anyways... it's a hair primer and detangler that you spray in before brushing your wet hair, and before styling. It has heat protectant and hydrates the hair, while also strengtehning it. I can 100% attest to all of these claims. It's such a stand out product and now holds the spot for my #1 hair primer.

What is your current favorite hair product?

I've suffered from dry scalp since I was young.. like 11 years old young. All of a sudden, my scalp started to itch and nothing helped. My scalp was flaking and I would have a white dusting on my shirt, which looked like dandruff. I thought that's what I had but the itching was unbearable.

Finally, I went to see a dermatologist and they told me I had psoriasis. Psoriasis is a skin condition which causes your skin cells to build up and that creates dry patches and scaly rashes. It made total sense and just until recently I discovered that psoriasis was not what I had.

Now, I don't think that doctor misdiagnosed me; I think after 13 years, the condition transformed into something else.

However, at the time I began treating my scalp for psoriasis; I used special shampoos, conditioners, styling products, creams; everything under the sun I used. These products would work for a handful of weeks or months but then they stopped and I'd have to move onto something else.

As of a few years ago I kind of just accepted that my head was going to be itchy and my scalp was going to remain in the state that it was in.

It wasn't until recently that I actually found some solutions to my issue and they were helping. My scalp wouldn't get itchy until it was time to wash my hair (I sometimes go 4-6 days without washing my hair because it's so thick, it never gets greasy).

A few months ago I did go to the dermatologist for a check up and told her about my scalp; she prescribed me some medicated shampoo and it helped immensely. She said that it wasn't psoriasis but rather just a build up (there is a medical term for it that I can't remember) and that the shampoo should help.

I've never loved a doctor more because I've been using the medicated shampoo for 2-3 months and my head has never felt better!

I do believe that there are cases of dry, flaky scalp that isn't as bad as mine and I think these products would work wonders for anyone suffering on a lesser level.

1. Alterna Caviar Exfoliating Scalp Facial: This product is a miracle worker. You use it before shampoo and you basically massage the product into your scalp with the little feet attached to the bottle. It removes all the dead skin from your scalp (you can actually feel this and it's gross) and cleanses your hair. I am obsessed with this and it's the one product that really worked and made a difference.

2. Drybar Double Standard Shampoo: When I saw that DryBar was coming out with it's 2-in-1 cleansing shampoo I bought a bottle the moment it was available. This is made for lifting and cleansing impurities and product build up from the scalp, leaving you with squeaky clean hair. This really helped, especially in conjuction with the Caviar Facial. My hair felt lighter, softer, and smoother with this shampoo and it left my scalp clean and fresh. It's a must-try!

3. Selsum Blue: This is a drugstore shampoo that is perfect for cleansing the scalp. Once my medicated shampoo runs out I'll start using this again. It's one of those old classics that never steer you wrong and I highly recommend starting with this shampoo to try and rid your scalp of that itch and dryness.

Another tip is to try using sulfate and paraben free hair products. The less chemicals, the better! I've been using them for years because I need to use them when I have a keratin and there really is no difference. Most products are sulfate and paraben free these days!

When all else fails, go to your dermatologist and get that itch figured out! You'll be much more comfortable and happier with a healthy scalp :)

My hair is something that I have a love/hate relationship with. It's very thick, curly, frizzy, and unruly. It has given me a lot of grief over the years; from flat ironing it to a crisp during middle school, to trying to embrace my Carrie Bradshaw like ringlets, to sometimes just throwing my hands in the air & surrendering to the messy mane, I've had my fair share of trouble with it.

I've gotten it relaxed, and I'm on my 3rd keratin treatment which has all been a huge help. My hair is easier to maintain and when I do wear it natural, it's more in control.

Even though its slightly better, it still takes a village to keep it together. I used to not really care about the products I was putting in my hair because as long as it was making it less frizzy, I was good to go. That is until I started really get into beauty and had to pay attention to what I was putting into my hair when I got my keratin treatments.

When you have a keratin, you cannot use any products with sulfates in it, so I pay close attention to that.

Also, I have a very dry scalp so I have to be careful what I use to make sure it doesn't irritate my scalp at all. I can tell within one shampoo if a product is making my scalp itchy and dry.

I also only wash my hair around 1-2 times a week. When I have a keratin, I wash my hair probably 2-3 times a week because it's a little greasier and I don't mind having to wash it because I usually am not blow drying or ironing my hair.

When I don't have a keratin (usually in the winter months), I only wash my hair once a week, because my hair is usually blown out and I hate wasting a good blowout until I have to.

Now that you know my hair routine, here are my most used & beloved products (as of lately). They work for me, keep my scalp in good condition, and help control the horse's mane I have on top of my head.

Alterna Caviar Scalp Exfoliating Facial: A few months ago, my scalp was on fire. It hurt so bad and I couldn't take it anymore. I did some research and found this little product. I immediately picked it up and started to use it, and it made all the difference. It has a scrubby brush on the end, and the product squeezes out from there. You run it through your wet scalp before shampooing and it removes all the dead skin from your scalp, just like a body exfoliator. It makes my hair look and feel so much cleaner. It's such an incredible discovery. If you have dry scalp, TRY this!

Loreal EverCreme Intense Nourishing Shampoo & Conditioner: I LOVE the EVER line from Loreal because they are free of sulfates & the price is right. They have a lot of different kinds, depending on your hair type but I love the nourishing shampoo because like I said, my hair is dry. I've tried a lot of shampoo and conditioner duos but this is by far my favorite because it leaves my hair clean and soft.

Verb Hydrating Mask:  This is a hydrating mask that I use as my deep conditioner about once a week. My hair can get very dry & this really puts the moisture back into my locks, and keeps my hair shiny, for longer. It's a huge bottle for only $14 and it's totally worth it! It's also sulfate (and paraben) free so added bonus, for sure. Verb is such a great haircare brand, I highly recommend it!

Amika Nourishing Mask: This is another hair mask that I really love. I think of this more as a repairing mask than strictly hydrating. When I feel like my hair just needs a huge break, I'll use this bad boy to help it out. It's also free of sulfates & parabens, and it is advertised as a true deep conditioning mask, it just feels like it does so much more. I switch back and forth between this and the Verb but both are incredible.

Amika Bombshell Blowout Spray: Amika is such a good haircare brand, you must try it out. This is the only blowout spray I've really tried but it's incredible. It makes my hair easier to brush out and makes it easier to blow dry. I'm also convinced it makes my hair dry faster, which I'm pretty sure is supposed to happen. I just ran out and I need more ASAP.

Below are some of my other favorites like dry shampoos, oils, and finishing sprays!

What are your go-to haircare products?

I have a weird obsession with being fancy, chic, and the most basic blogger gal in the universe. My friends mock me on a daily basis for my Instagrams, for my love of being "fancy" and just enjoying girly things. I love being part of a good trend and I don't like to miss out on something trendy.

I make no issue of this though -- I've always been a super girly girl and I love that part of me. I don't apologize for it.

For the past few years, I've seen everyone talking about Drybar and how incredible it was. I saw the Instagrams, followed them on every social media platform, and longed for the chance when I would sit in that chair.

There are no Drybars in my neighborhood but since I work in Manhattan, they are all over the place. I never found the right excuse to spend $45 on a blowout when I could get one in my neighborhood for $15, but with my cousin's wedding this past weekend, it felt like the perfect time to treat myself.

I made an appointment at one near my workplace for Friday night after work and was super excited and a tad bit nervous. I have an issue with going out (ANYWHERE) after work because I have a weird desire to just get home on time but I sarcified that for the sake of pampering.

When I walked into the Drybar at the Le Parker Meridian Hotel, I was met with this warming feeling. Everything was so clean and cute. The yellow accents mixed with the smell of hair products was unique and just so inviting.

The staff was SO NICE and attentive; I gave them my name, they offered me some champagne (to which I gladly accepted) and I waited for my appointment. I arrived pretty early (15-30 minutes before my appointment) and was seated with my stylist only 10 minutes after my appointment time. I am used to waiting a good half hour to an hour for any hair stylist which is pretty annoying... I was surprised at this because for a Friday night in Manhattan, the Drybar was pretty crowded.

I met with my stylist Stephanie, she sat me in her chair and asked what I wanted. I told her I had a wedding and that I had looked in their lookbook (the book in their salon & online that has all the different hairstyles & blowouts they can do for you) and I picked a Mai Tai, loose beachy waves & curls.

She brought me into the back to wash my hair & offered 2 shampoos (I gladly accepted only one) and if you've ever been to a hair salon, you know the washing portion is the most relaxing thing in the universe. I am obsessed with getting my hair washed.

She sat me back in the chair and started on my hair. I think the entire process took around 30-45 minutes because I have insanely thick, unruly, curly hair so this was actually fast for me.

While she did my hair, I looked through magazines, watch the movie they were playing on the television in front of me, and played around on my phone.

The place was beautiful and just so nice & fun. I love a nicely decorated place and the Drybar was beautiful, with the flowers, hair products, yellow accents and just the entire layout of the place. It is the ultimate girly getaway.

After Stephanie was done with my hair, I paid and left the area. It's the day after the wedding, 2 days after I got my hair done, and the curls are still in tact. I reserved them with the help of a few drybar products *linked below along with the other products she used on me in the salon* but my hair usually holds a style for a few days.

My hair selfie after I got out of the chair
All in all, I was incredibly happy with the way my hair came out, with the experience and staff. It's safe to say that I am addicted to the drybar, have downloaded the app, and already booked my next appointment.

I will 100% spend $45 after a hard week (or day) at work to get pampered and have someone blow my hair while I sip on champagne.

Isn't that every girls' dream?

Have you ever been to the drybar? What is your favorite pampering activity?

Another week has come & gone. I'm getting ready to head to my cousin's wedding today (it's raining and just not good wedding weather) and I haven't been to a wedding in over 10 years. I'm pretty excited to eat & drink... Millennial complex, ladies & gents.

I hate feeling rushed & hectic but that's what this morning is: I went to the Drybar for the 1st time last night and it was epic. More on that later... but this morning I need to paint my nails, shower, pack up and get out of the house by 2 PM.

The good news is that next week is Memorial Day Weekend which means the start of summer fridays at work so I'll have off every other Friday. I am SO HYPED.

This was also a week of highs & lows. I got published on Elite Daily again but was also passed over for a freelance position and another Elite Daily article got rejected. You win some, you lose some but I'm getting used to rejection...as all writers & everyone else should. Take it with stride!

Also -- the Champagne Glow Collection by Becca & Jaclyn Hill releases next week (I already have the face palette that was released in limited quantities this week) and I'm planning on buying everything because JH is QUEEN and I'm so excited.

That being said, here's what I loved this week:

What did you love this week?

I have never been a fan on my dull brown hair. I have dull brown eyes to match so it makes it even more unexciting.

I've put light brown highlights in my hair, blonde highlights, and even dyed my hair black two years ago. I've never cut my hair a drastic length so really the only drastic thing I've ever done was get a Keratin treatment done (#lifechanging).

A lovely selfie with my natural colored hair (after I got my Keratin treatment done)
I've been meaning for a change, especially with all my hair issues that I talked about in yesterday's post... but that's a whole different story in itself.

As I grew older, I learned to appreciate my "dull" brown hair. It's not just a regular brown but from the chemicals and hair dye, it's kind of changed colors. Sometimes there speckles of red or blonde or caramel. It's pretty good.

When I dyed my hair black, I felt like a totally different person. I felt like I was wearing a wig, it took weeks to get used to it.

Black hair don't care ;)
With my "dull" brown hair, I feel like me.

When I discovered Madison Reed, a hair care company that specializes in hair dye, I thought their take on "hair personality" was pretty cool. I've heard a little bit about Madison Reed products and after looking at their website, you know they take hair seriously.

The campaign from Madison Reed is all about hair personality. Your hair is yours forever and as you grow and mature, you can change it to how you feel at that specific time.

I think it's really interesting to know that depending on how you feel, you can alter your hair to reflect that. Some people may go their entire lives without changing their hair and other people change the color every few months.

When you take all of that into consideration, how does your hair really reflect who you are as a person?

There's always hair stereotypes; blondes are ditzy, black haired are emo, brown hair is boring and then you have red heads.

Do you fit your hair stereotype? I'm sure you don't because that's why they're called stereotypes.

Personally, sometimes I do fit my brown haired stereotype. I could be shy, nerdy, low-key, and Type A, but then there are other times when I'm really outgoing, fun, funny, and quirky.

Sometimes I do think that if I had a different hair color I'd be more bubbly, all the time, but then realize that hair color doesn't define you-- that's why you have the ability to change it whenever you want!

As the summer draws near and just with the mood I've been in, I want a change. Madison Reed's Color Advisor allows you to take a quiz based on your current hair color and skin tone to see what hair color works best with you. After I took mine, it told me just what I suspected...a light brown or red.

We'll see if I go through with it but for now, I'm perfectly fine being myself in my "dull" brown hair! At the end of the day, it's the hair I was born with and it makes me who I am!

What's your hair personality? Do you break your own stereotype? Tell me in the comments!

It's no secret that I have terribly unruly, curly and frizzy hair. Straightening my hair has always been a process. It takes hours and never comes out the way it should.

I've always hated it. Everyone always tells me that having a lot thick, curly hair is a blessing. It definitely is a blessing, in a way but it's also a curse. There is no wearing my hair without product, the heat and humidity are my mortal enemies and summertime is the worst time.

Hair is so important to girls, it makes or breaks our days, at least mine. When my hair is in place, I feel put together. I've always said that if your hair and makeup is done, you can wear whatever outfit you want to make you feel good.

My hair has been bothering me ever since I got back from spring break vacation. The heat down in Punta Cana transformed my hair in a way that I could never get it back the way it was. It was drier, frizzier and harder to maintain. It was driving me insane.

My natural, no product hair on Spring Break
Straightened hair BEFORE the treatment
There aren't many solutions to unruly hair. Finding new shampoos, conditioners, hair masks, and other products might help but not in the long term. There is though, a long term solution, has always been an option in the back of my mind.

On the hair market, there are a few different straightening and smoothing treatments available. When I was in the elementary school, the big thing to do was Japanese Hair Straightening. That cost a few hundred bucks and destroyed your hair. After a few months, hair turned dry and brittle. It wasn't worth it.

Then there were a few relaxing treatments that were available and a Brazilian Keratin that contained formaldehyde (which they use to embalm the deceased) so I wasn't allowed to get that done.

I also didn't want to destroy my hair and sometimes I didn't like the fact that my hair wouldn't curl anymore.

Well, I finally got fed up with it. When I was home, I was paying $20 for a woman to wash, blow, and straighten my hair because I couldn't bare to do it. I noticed that my local salon was charging $175 for the 1 Day Brazilian Keratin Smoothing treatment; this meant after the treatment I only would have to wait 24 hours to wash my hair.

I knew I had to take the jump.

I made an appointment for the treatment as soon as I got home from school after graduation and treated myself to the most incredible thing I've ever done.

Last Friday I sat in a salon chair for 2 hours while the woman applied a terrible smelling, eye burning liquid to my head, combed it out, and then blow dried and straightened it.

After I left, my hair was absolutely pin straight and I had strict instructions to not dent it or touch it. That meant no ponytails, no headbands, and no slipping my hair behind my ears (a bad habit of mine).

It was very anxiety ridden because I'm always touching my hair and I didn't want to mess up this treatment. I was really excited about it.

On Saturday, I washed my hair and let it air dry. I was stunned. So stunned I could've cried I was so overjoyed. My hair usually dries like a lions mane, a bird's nest...I've heard it all. Now, my hair was drying so straight I could barely recognize myself.

Not only was it drying straight but it feels lighter, shiner, and the frizz is completely gone. My hair won't turn into a messy nest when the weather gets really warm and humid.

Right after the treatment was done
It took me a total of 10 minutes to straighten my semi straight hair and it stayed straight until I washed it again. No dents, bumps, or even the slightest change over the course of three days. I was shocked, sold, and so incredibly happy.

Drying naturally after I washed it
I will continue to spend $175 until my hair falls out to keep it straight and tidy. I'm OBSESSED.

All dried and straightened
If you have hair like mine and are remotely on the fence with this treatment, I highly recommend it. I didn't really do much research on it because I know the people who work at my salon and I trust their instinct; I also have heard good things before getting it done.

Now, my hair is pin straight and easier than ever to manage. I'm so dam excited for the summer and the fact that my hair will no longer be a problem.

Have you gotten the Keratin Smoothing Treatment? What are your hair woes? Tell me in the comments!

SaveSave
My Birchbox came incredibly early this month; I didn't even get the shipping confirmation and Birchbox wasn't even done revealing the sneak peek of the boxes yet--that's how early it was! I wasn't complaining, I'm glad it came before I head back to school tomorrow.

August's Birchbox was not my favorite; it definitely could've been better compared to the other boxes I saw people getting.

This is the last box I'll be receiving for a while because I need to save money while up at school, at least for the first few months till I get into the swing of things, especially having my own apartment, paying rent and bills.

Let's dive into it, shall we?

This was one of my favorite products in the box this month. I haven't used it yet but I'm excited to try it out. My skin is a tad bit uneven in spots and I have a lot of beauty marks and freckles scattered across my face so I'm hoping that this will even out my skin tone.

This is a deodorant wipe, something I've never heard of before but it seems pretty cool. I only got one in my Birchbox but I'll try it out eventually. It seems like a good idea but I'll probably just stick to my regular stick, Dove deodorant. These are great for being on the go though!

I am really really excited to try this out; everywhere you look nowadays someone is talking about Argan Oil. It has so many multi-purpose uses from skin to hair to cuticles so there is no way that you CAN'T love it! The bottle I received was tiny but hey, it's a sample. I'll put it to good use though.

This was definitely my favorite product. I was thrilled when I saw it in my box! I've heard great things about these lipsticks and I love ModelCo, it's such an awesome Birchbox brand so I was excited to try it. I also really prefer lipsticks to lip glosses, the gloss is just too sticky sometimes. I got the shade "Kitty" which is described as a pale pink but looks more nude to me. It glides on perfectly, has really lasting wear, and is minty and tingles when you apply it. I'm in love!

I usually love the Miss Jessie's products I receive, even if they do come in foil packets but I could've done without these two. I don't consider my hair damaged nor do I need it to grow (I actually need a hair cut) so neither of these seem to be of much use to me. I'll probably try them out just to use them and see how they work!

I'll be sad to let my Birchbox go for a few months but I need to be a smart college student and realize that I need to pay my cable and electric bill.

Birchbox will be back, I promise.

Even though I re-subscribed to Birchbox this past month, I kept my subscription to Ipsy Glam Bag because I have the extra $10 right now and I really do enjoy the full size samples I receive in Ipsy.

This month's bag wasn't really to die for but it was pretty great.

Shall we jump right into it?

The bag that I received this month was an adorable, neon, waterproof bag to go with the beach theme of the products. It was a little small but it'll do; it was really cute!

The first product is a great chubby lip pencil in a fuchsia pink color. It glides on really well and is really, really bright. It doesn't stay on that great, it got clumpy along my lip line but it's a great summer product and I don't really mind reapplying it every so often.

Just a little swatch of the lip pencil

The next product is a sample of three eyeshadows. When I tried to swatch them, they aren't very pigmented and I'm not crazy about the colors. Because of the heat, I haven't really used eyeshadow but once it gets a little colder, I may try them out for real but I'm not in love with the palette. It was a nice surprise, to get three eyeshadows, though!

I received this Coola Sunscreen Tinted Moisturizer; Coola is a brand that I've received in my Birchbox before and I like it. I was really excited to get a tinted moisturizer because that's all I've been using this summer. It's not really that tinted when applied to my face but it'll do for days when I want a minimal make-up look.

I've been trying out a bunch of new products to tame my frizz and curly hair this summer so I was thrilled when I got this soy, texturizing beach spray by Healthy Sexy Hair. I used it, without any other products, so I could get the real feel for what it did to my hair and I was slightly disappointed. My hair wasn't necessarily frizzy but the curly wasn't great. I guess I misinterpreted what this spray does and it's not a "curling" spray so maybe combined with my curl products, this will work better!

My favorite product in this bag, and the reason I was so excited to receive this month's Ipsy was the great Benetint. My love affair with Benefit Cosmetics has reached an all time high so I'm really excited to try this out. I've been loving my ChaChat Tint so I haven't used this yet because I'm not ready to sport red cheeks.

Altogether, I think I liked my Birchbox better this month, they were just better quality products, even if they weren't full sized.
