Monthly Muse: August 2019 Favorites

It is my time! August is over, summer is over and next week unofficially starts Fall. This is when I shine and this year is going to be a better Fall than all the rest. It's a truly fresh start for me! After a long 4-5 months of unemployment (storytime on that coming soon), I will be starting a new job in two weeks so it's like going back to school for me.

This Fall I also have a few weddings, some fun fall activities, a Jonas Brothers concert, and of course, my birthday. It's going to be a good season!

But before we get into the fun of Fall, we have to wrap up the summer with the last favorites post!

Monthly Favorites

Lilly Pulitzer Agenda


I don't know where I mentioned this or if I even did but I've gone back to the Lilly Pulitzer agenda. I still am using my Louis Vuitton MM Agenda as a notebook/sort of planner but this year I really needed something a little bigger. I was craving a change and I decided my Erin Condren wasn't going to do it for me anymore. Lilly just has the best layout, with the least amount of hassle. Sometimes simple is best and that's what I needed this year. We'll see if it changes because it usually does halfway through the year! So far, so good though! It's been sitting at home on my desk and has been keeping me on track. I will be traveling with it to work once I start so I will report back if anything changes! 



Urban Decay Hi-Fi Shine Ultra Cushion Lipgloss

Thanks to one of my sorority sisters, I won a beauty giveaway from Carly Hill this month! I was so excited to get my hands on some new beauty goodies (when am I not?); one of the items was an Urban Decay Hi-Fi Lipgloss in the shade 'Obsessed' and I wasn't too thrilled about it because I felt that I had heard bad reviews about this particular formula. Well, I was mistaken because this is my new favorite lipgloss. It is not sticky, has a very minty/plumping feel and adds the right amount of shine to any lip look. I've been really into adding lipgloss on top of a regular or liquid lipstick and this has definitely become a staple. 


Kylie Cosmetics Sippin Pretty Eyeshadow Palette

I had my eye on this palette last year when Kylie released it for her 21st birthday but ended up not getting it. Well, it made its way to Ulta this year and I almost bought it a handful of times. I ended up not getting it because it's a $65 palette and I have too many eyeshadow palettes. It was recently 50% off and I was shopping with my aunt who so kindly purchased it for me. Holy hell, I am in love. I haven't really been using anything else all month. These shadows are super soft, very pigmented, and blend like a dream. Also, don't let the hot pinks scare you away -- it's a very wearable palette that you can create countless looks with. 

Love Wellness Bye Bye Bloat

I did talk about Bye Bye Bloat in my favorite wellness supplements post but I was off of it for a little while. It tastes and smells so bad and I just couldn't use it. However, this month I was pretty desperate because I felt so bloated on many occasions. I just hold my nose and guzzle water to mask the taste. I take it after a meal or at night, per the directions and feel so much better and not bloated in the AM or a few hours later. It's like a magic pill and I highly recommend!

Monthly Muse: August 2018 Favorites

The time has come! August is FINALLY over and I am so thrilled about this. Summer is done and we are onto fall.

August has always been one of my favorite months because it always meant the same thing: fall is on its way, my favorite time of year is just around the corner and August always meant back to school! To me, August is a fresh start and the beginning of something new. 

This summer was pretty good though -- I didn't do a ton and worked a lot but I had some good times with friends, and actually started dating someone so I spent a lot of time with him which is really nice. I mentioned this last week and who knows, I may dive in deeper but for now, I'm keeping it lowkey!

Last week I bought my first set of Fall candles and I know that Starbucks is releasing Pumpkin Spice Lattes this week. I haven't decided if I'll buy one or if I will wait for after Labor Day (my usual PSL timeline). I know I will be waiting until next week to burn my Fall candles and break out all things pumpkin! 

I had a few favorites this month despite the fact that I did a crapload of shopping ...



1. Tory Burch Fleming Shoulder Bag: I've been talking and thinking about this bag for years but haven't seriously considered it until about 6 months ago. I eyed them up on all different retailers but couldn't justify $500 for a Tory Burch bag. I turned to my favorite preloved websites, eBay and Poshmark and finally found a decent one with minimal wear on eBay and purchased it immediately. It was under $200 and I am just in love. I haven't been using any other bag (aside from my work bags) and I cannot get enough. Full review coming soon but I had to include it because it is such an amazing bag.

2. Bath and Body Works "Focus" Candle: I've been waiting to burn this candle for months, I'm not sure why, but I finally took the plunge this month and oh my goodness, it's an amazing candle. It is meant to make you feel more 'focused' so I moved it to my desk and have been burning it when I have to get a lot of work done and it's probably a placebo effect but I feel like it works. It has a great aromatherapy smell and makes me feel so good. It's a candle I will definitely repurchase and feel comfortable burning all year round.

3. Laura Geller Filter First Luminous Foundation: I'm unsure if I mentioned this but it's been my favorite foundation this month. It was released in early July but I've been really diving into it in August and it's amazing. It feels so incredibly lightweight on the skin, has decent medium-full coverage and has a gorgeously, natural luminous finish. I don't really wear foundation in the summer but I actually have been making excuses to apply this!

4. Lilly Pulitzer Medium Agenda: This is the first time I ever purchased a medium agenda and I don't think I'll ever go back! It's so compact and lighter than the larger Lilly agendas but still, have so much room to write comfortably. I love August for the sole reason that I have a fresh planner to ruin and this month has been no different. I've become obsessed with my Lilly agenda and it's a true lifesaver -- I remember why I have purchased so many in the past.

Royally Planned: ban.do Planner + Review

For the past three years, I've relied on my trusty Lilly Pulitzer planner to get me through college and my first post grad year.

I knew this year that I wanted to change it up. I tried last year and really disliked the Kate Spade planners. That was way too plain and dull for me.

I also had a Whitney English Day Designer, but it was too big for everyday so I used that for my blog. Then, once I started my new job, I left it at work, because it's perfect for writing to-do lists and daily notes.

This year, I decided to have two planners--one for my blog & everyday life, and then a larger one to leave at work.

It was just a matter of which two planners I was going to choose. I was thinking of Erin Condren, or another Day Designer, and definitely another Lilly, but fate stepped in one faithful morning a few weeks ago.

I was at work, on Instagram, and saw that the new ban.do planners were being released for pre-order. I've followed ban.do on Instagram for a while but never had purchased anything from them. I've seen the planners before but quickly did an Instagram search to see what previous planners looked like.

I was immediately sold and purchased my favorite out of the three offered, one I've seen many times, "I'm Very Busy". I knew it was smaller than the Lilly planner, but a little bigger than the small sized Lillys. It seemed like the perfect size.

It took about two weeks for my planner to arrive and the moment I opened the package, I fell in love. I never have felt this way about a planner, not even my Lilly. I'm being so dramatic but it's true.

It's the sweetest, smallest little planner but big enough to not feel like you're cramming everything into a few lines. There is plenty of room for all your planner needs. Yet, it's not heavy and small enough to carry around everyday.

It's so adorable too, it's colorful and fun, with cute little sayings on each page, and fun little designs. It's very well made (I like that it is bound and not spiral, easier to not destroy), and it's very detailed. There are little details in every corner of this planner. You can tell that a lot of thought went into designing these planners and I really appreciate that.

It comes with a set of stickers that are so fun, I can't wait to use them.

I have had this baby sitting on my desk since I got it because I don't have the heart to hide it in my drawer. I just need it to be August so I can use it, it's been killing me!!!

If you couldn't tell I really, really love this planner. I am SO happy that fate stepped in and I saw that Instagram post at the right time. I think I have officially converted to band.do planners & the entire company. It's just so fun and full of life, and so girly. It's awesome!

I will still (probably) be buying a Lilly planner to use & keep at work since that is slightly bigger.

Royally Planned: Lilly Pulitzer vs. Kate Spade Agendas

So I am a normal Type A personality who loves her agendas and all things organization. For the past two years, I've become a Lilly Pulitzer agenda addict. I live and breathe by these babies because they're so colorful, fun and make organization that much more fun.

There's not outstandingly special about these agendas; they don't breathe fire or are made from magical unicorn hairs, they're just simple planners. They have monthly views in the front, a few blank note pages and then then the standard planner pages: monthly and at a glance weekly pages. 

My Lilly Pulitzer agenda was the source of color and fun in my life during the school year but when I graduated, I thought that maybe I should get a plainer planner, something more sophisticated and for the office.

I weighed my options but ultimately decided on a Kate Spade planner. I fell in love with them when they were released for the first time last year but had already ordered my Lilly one. This year I decided to take the plunge and order my Kate Spade planner; I decided on the classic stripe planner and waited for it's arrival. 

In the meantime, I saw the Lilly agendas being released and was insanely jealous. I wanted to order a small one to have for my blog and because I couldn't just stop my Lilly love cold turkey.

That's why I was sort of thrilled/relieved when I got my KS agenda in the mail and hated it. Yes, that's right, I hated it.



It was a quite large agenda, a little too big to carry around all day, everyday. It was also very plain inside. Like really plain, old boring. I instantly missed my colorful pages and printed monthly tabs. I was longing for the queen of pink and green. 




The KS planner is set up the same way as Lilly, the only difference being size and plainness. I did though, like the little quotes at the beginning of each month. It just wasn't enough to satisfy my need of color.

There wasn't anything wrong with this Kate Spade planner, though. If the Lilly agendas are too much for you, this might be an answered prayer. 

I then returned my KS planner and ordered a Lilly one, in the print Hot Spot. My goodness it was nice to be reunited with my colorful pages.

The Lilly planners are set up the same way they always are, but there is a more color, more prints and a little more craziness than usual. They definitely upped the ante on these agendas and I love every second of it.

Sorority Sunday: Craft City

This past week was another wonderful experience in my sorority life. We have started new member education with my fabulous eight new members and now as we entered the second week, that could only mean one thing....BIG/LITTLE NIGHT!

Being on the executive board, everything is heightened and made more stressful, more nerve-wracking, and a little more exciting. I don't get to sit back and relax, I'm constantly on edge with everything going on, even if its not my job. 

Big/Little night was no acceptation to that rule. 

It's the one night out of the year where everyone is completely happy and filled with so much love that it's almost sickening.

Getting your big or getting your little makes everything in the sorority so much sweeter. You have a mentor and you are a mentor, there is so much fun and love to be had it's insane. I can't even explain the feeling of opening your eyes and seeing your perfect big or having your little turn around and see her reaction.

Both when I got my big and my little I was so excited I could've cried. There was so much emotion and it's so difficult to explain to someone who has never gone through it.

Big/Little night is my favorite, even if I'm not becoming a big or getting a little. Watching someone open their eyes is so exciting and so thrilling, I fall in love with my sorority and my sisters all over again.





With Big/Little night comes lots and lots of crafting; there is nothing sorority girls love more than crafting. I love seeing what everyone crafts for their new additions but also, there are gifts for everyone else too! 

Usually people will buy or craft their little and big something or in my chapter, we have secret sisters which is almost like an additional big so there will usually be something for them also.

This semester, I bought my little an adorable new pair of letters to add to her collection. I also crafted for my niece (my co-little's little) and my secret sister.

For my niece, I crafted an adorable canvas made from old Lilly agenda pages (she is just as obsessed as I am!) and I honestly love the way it came out. I used mod podge and some paint for an extra touch and thought it would be a cool idea to use the story of Lilly that is the front page of the agenda for the background of the canvas.


For my secret I kept it simple and just a little plaque with our nicknames on it. I used regular acrylic paint,  a Sharpie paint pen and some gold gems I had lying around.



I'm really happy with how everything came out and it totally put me in the crafting mood. I need to make another trip to Michaels to buy some more supplies!

Back to School Series: School Bag Essentials

I hope everyone enjoyed the guest posts from the past few days; my blogger friends are seriously talented and wonderful! I enjoyed ALL their posts and I hope to feature some more guest bloggers on Royally Pink soon.

I'm all settled into my house and have internet and cable hooked up so let's continue to your regular scheduled programming.

Here is another series that I got inspired to start when thinking about heading back to school. My first last day of school starts next Tuesday so I'll spend the week gearing up and preparing for senior year.

All week I'll blog about things you need to know when heading back to school, mainly college, but there is always something for younger students also!

I spend a majority of my days on campus and not in my apartment. Running from class to class to meetings to lunch with my sorority sisters, I am constantly on the go. 

I am also a huge bag lady; I have a ton of different bags, totes, satchels, cross bodies, I cannot get enough. Along with that, I'm also a huge pack rat. I am constantly being called Hermione or Mary Poppins because I always have everything that you could ever imagine in my bag.

Combine all of these characteristics and you've got yourself an expert on what to carry in your school bag!


I purchased my Longchamp at the beginning of last year because I found that none of my other tote bags were big enough to handle the load of stuff I carried with me on a daily basis. I have to medium size longchamp and it is the perfect size. There are no inside pockets expect for a small one on the side but there is so much room inside, it could fit pretty much anything and everything.


1. Notebooks, school related and non school related

Maybooks are the perfect extra notebook!


If you're headed to class, you should always carry your subject notebook with you. I really like having one notebook for all my classes (I use a FiveStar 5 subject for my 5 classes) so I don't have to worry about carrying a bunch of notebooks with me. I also always have at least one non school related notebook so I could jot down to-dos and random scrap notes. I feel incomplete if I don't have a notebook with me.

2. Pens, Pencils, Highlighters

Of course you need writing utensils when headed to class. It's also important if you're headed to a meeting of some sort to always have a pen on you. 

3. Emergency Kit



I always feel like I need everything and anything at any given moment. I always keep an emergency kit with me, a little bag filled with odds and ends that are common everyday uses. I use my Lilly Pulitzer Estee Lauder make up bag to keep in my school bag. I keep it filled with a bunch of little things like advil, hair ties, allergy medicine, lotion, hand sanitizer, lip balm, pressed powder, oil blotting sheets, and tissues. It's great to get into the habit of keeping a small pouch filled with these things that you never know if you're going to need.

4. Planner



Oh this is a give in! I am never without my planner; even if I'm just running to get coffee at the library or something non school related, I usually always have my planner in my bag. It's essential to my sanity.

5. iPad or Laptop



Depending on if I'm headed to work during the day, I usually always have one of my electronic devices with me. If I'm going to work, I have my laptop, if not, I'll probably just have my iPad on hand. It's great for getting some work done, reading a book, or just using it instead of your iPhone.

6. Chargers, Earphones

Because I am constantly out of my apartment probably from 8am till 11pm (long days, I know), I have gotten into the habit of bringing my iPhone charger with me everywhere. I also always have earphones just incase I need them in the library or want to listen to Pandora. I've also recently purchased a J.Crew portable phone charger (I have a Lilly one too) so I'll be adding those into the mix incase I'm not near an outlet or USB port.

It is very easy for me to pack a heavy school bag. I always feel like I need a thousand things throughout the day and most of the time, I do use everything I pack. I feel that all these things are essential to my school days and I hope this has helped you in some way!

2013 Lilly Agenda

Friday was the BEST day ever because I got a surprise package in the mail! Okay, it wasn't a complete surprise because I had ordered it and got a shipping confirmation but I didn't think it would arrive that quickly.

The Lilly Pulitzer Agenda prints have been out for quite some time and you were able to pre-order them for about the past month. I had been going back and forth, trying to decide which agenda would be right for my senior year of college.

I originally fell in love with the Tusk in the Sun print; it was navy and pink with adorable elephants. I wanted it immediately. Then I realized that that particular print was shipping later than the rest of them and after speaking with Lilly's customer service (so helpful!) they explained it was because that was the most popular print.



I didn't want to wait that long and I also didn't want the SAME print as everyone else so after some careful consideration and my mom's opinion, I went with the Navy Tiger Lilly Large Agenda. It was still navy and pink, only with adorable tigers, and some green and white thrown in there.

It is the quintessential Lilly planner, aside from a classic pink and green one.

I got the shipping confirmation Thursday night so when FedEx dropped the package off at my door Friday afternoon, I was completely stunned.

I started freaking out and my mom, along with my cousin, were very confused as to why I ripped the packaging and started squealing like a child on Christmas morning.

The planner is BEAUTIFUL! I almost shed a tear. It's so sleek and new, it seems a little bigger than last years but that might just be my eyes playing tricks on me.

The inside pages are exactly the same from last year (I think they added a few extra blank note pages) but now the tabs are laminated so they don't get crinkly and ugly. (Good addition, Lilly!)


The designs inside are beautiful, very creative and colorful. I'm simply in love with it.

I really do love the Lilly planners because not only are they gorgeous but there is a lot of space, the layout is wonderful and perfect for the busy college gal. I like having the weeks laid out on the same page, with enough space to write down everything. The month long calendars before each month are perfect for writing down meetings, events, and due dates.

I like to use the monthly calendars at the beginning of the agenda for my blog posts, that way everything is in the same place but also a bit separated.

I am severely depressed that this will be the last planner I use for school work but there is no doubt in my mind that I will be buying a Lilly agenda next year for a big girl job and the real world.

I can't wait till August to use this lovely!

PS. Minutes before the new agenda arrived, I spilled coffee all over my old one. If that wasn't a sign from Lilly Pulitzer herself, I don't know what is!

DIY Lilly Monogram

Since joining Phi Sigma Sigma (almost) two years ago I have become quite the crafter; between making a paddle for my big or crafting hardcore for my little, I've learned my way around a bottle of Mod Podge and Michaels Craft Store.

I'm still not the most artistic sister in the chapter but I sometimes get the sudden urge to break out the paint brush. It usually happens on rainy days or when I take a glance at Pinterest. I'm always on the verge of a trip to the craft store, in my mind.

This weekend in NYC with Tropical Storm Andrea ruining Friday night, it was the perfect time to craft something up.

I've been dying to use my Lilly agenda pages to make something and with the new Lilly agendas on the way, I broke out the sponge brushes and the Mod Podge and got to crafting.


I had a Monogram 'B' lying around from my last craft excursion and I thought a Lilly monogram would be a perfect addition to my new bedroom when I move into my apartment in August.

I had seen several posts on how to make this particular monogram and it's very simple. 

First I ripped out some planner pages with my favorite designs and cut them into tiny squares; some were larger than others and different shapes to cover the sides and inside of the 'B'.

Then, using a sponge brush, I put one layer of Mod Podge on the wooden letter. Mod Podge is a great sealer, glue, and finish that can be used pretty much on every surface. I used the matte finish but there is also a glossy finish available that I'm sure looks fabulous when dried.


Then I carefully placed the pieces of paper on the Mod Podge covered letter, making sure every bit of wood was covered. It got a little messy but I embraced my gluey hands.

After the paper is in place, let the monogram dry for at least a half hour. After it's dry, take the sponge brush and once again, apply a light layer of Mod Podge to seal and finish the paper. I was a little hesitant at first to layer the glue on top because it looks like the white will show up but after it's dry, you can't even tell.



Applying the last layer of Mod Podge, the monogram is sealed and finished, making it perfect for hanging.

This was such a simple craft for such a great finished product. I'm definitely going to save my old agenda pages (there is SO much left over) and figure out a way to use them to craft something else.
