So the time has come. It's mid August and summer has come and gone so quickly. With Labor Day right around the corner, that could only mean one thing...back to school.

For the first time in my life, I am not going back to school and it's a struggle that is all too real. It's really sad that I'm not going back to college because shopping for back to school was always my favorite time of the year.

New pencils, notebooks and everything in between were my favorite purchases. School shopping got even more exciting when I went away to college and had to buy so many more things than usual.

From bedding to bath caddies to shoe hangers, dorm room shopping is unlike anything else. There are so many necessities that you're going to need because you're actually living at school. It's so different from what you're used too.

There are a lot of things I wish I knew I needed when I went away to school for the first time. When I would arrive on the first day, I would see all my roommates' belongings and think "I wish I would've brought that!" or "That is such a good idea!"

Well, here is a list of things that I wish I knew I needed in college so you don't have to feel silly like I did!

1. Power strips: These babies come in handy way too often. I used them all over my room and they're great because most colleges or universities don't allow extension cords. Put one near your desk or bedside and you'll have all the outlet space you need for chargers, lamps, and hair straighteners!

2. Command Hooks: Hammering a nail into the wall won't do in your dorm room (you want that damage deposit back don't you?) so the next best thing are command hooks. They're great for hanging decorations on your walls but also use them for jewelry organization, coat racks, and stringing lights.

3.Brita ® FilterThis is hands down one of my favorite items because tap water in the dorm rooms just don't cut it. I've never used a Brita ® Filter till I got to college but it's changed the way I think about drinking water. My freshmen year roommate brought us our first Brita ® Filter and we used it throughout the 4 years (replacing the filters every few months as directed, of course). If you're living in a dorm with no kitchen space, keeping a Brita ® filter in your mini fridge will help save money on bottled water. Having a Brita ® on hand is always an essential. (Brita ® Filters are available at Target)

4. Bath Mats: I didn't even think of a bath mat to place in the shower or a bath rug to put outside the shower when I was a freshmen in college. These are definitely essentials and I'm glad my roommates were smart enough to bring them otherwise it would've been a slippery mess.

5. Weekender Bag: I didn't have a sufficient weekend bag until Christmas break when my grandparents bought me a Vera Bradley duffel (#socollege). This made traveling back and forth to home during the semester extremely difficult because I was traveling with 3+ tote bags with all my belongings. Having a weekender bag or duffel will make packing for quick trips home or week long breaks a lot easier.

These are things that weren't really on any packing list I looked at before I went to college for the first time so it was a learning experience.

College is the best time of your life, make sure you're fully prepared!

So I am a normal Type A personality who loves her agendas and all things organization. For the past two years, I've become a Lilly Pulitzer agenda addict. I live and breathe by these babies because they're so colorful, fun and make organization that much more fun.

There's not outstandingly special about these agendas; they don't breathe fire or are made from magical unicorn hairs, they're just simple planners. They have monthly views in the front, a few blank note pages and then then the standard planner pages: monthly and at a glance weekly pages.

My Lilly Pulitzer agenda was the source of color and fun in my life during the school year but when I graduated, I thought that maybe I should get a plainer planner, something more sophisticated and for the office.

I weighed my options but ultimately decided on a Kate Spade planner. I fell in love with them when they were released for the first time last year but had already ordered my Lilly one. This year I decided to take the plunge and order my Kate Spade planner; I decided on the classic stripe planner and waited for it's arrival.

In the meantime, I saw the Lilly agendas being released and was insanely jealous. I wanted to order a small one to have for my blog and because I couldn't just stop my Lilly love cold turkey.

That's why I was sort of thrilled/relieved when I got my KS agenda in the mail and hated it. Yes, that's right, I hated it.

It was a quite large agenda, a little too big to carry around all day, everyday. It was also very plain inside. Like really plain, old boring. I instantly missed my colorful pages and printed monthly tabs. I was longing for the queen of pink and green.

The KS planner is set up the same way as Lilly, the only difference being size and plainness. I did though, like the little quotes at the beginning of each month. It just wasn't enough to satisfy my need of color.

There wasn't anything wrong with this Kate Spade planner, though. If the Lilly agendas are too much for you, this might be an answered prayer.

I then returned my KS planner and ordered a Lilly one, in the print Hot Spot. My goodness it was nice to be reunited with my colorful pages.

The Lilly planners are set up the same way they always are, but there is a more color, more prints and a little more craziness than usual. They definitely upped the ante on these agendas and I love every second of it.

I can't wait to start using my new agenda when August comes; it's the best day of the year!

Also, aside from these planners, I'll post a review on my Whitney English Day Designer next week. (I received it in my goodie bag from the SGG Conference, read about that here).

What are your favorite planners? What did you choose this year? Tell me in the comments!!

Even though summer just started, there are millions of teenagers across the country that are mentally, physically, and emotionally preparing to take a giant leap and start a new chapter in their life. Those kids are getting ready to head off to their freshmen year of college.

If you're like me, you'll be going away to college and living in a dorm; living on your own for the first time in your life.

It's a scary thought and it definitely is a completely different living situation. Aside from the emotional preparation, there is a lot of physical preparation that goes into heading off to live the dorm room life.

Don't worry though, you'll be fine. There are so many resources at your disposal to get everything you need.

The biggest part of moving out of your house and into a dorm room is the difference in space and the fact that you'll be living with strangers. Learning to deal with their living habits and keeping the peace is the biggest stretch but once you have your own space in that little dorm, things will work out.

Residence Hall Linens has everything you'll need in your dorm room from XL twin bedding to storage units you could fit in the tiniest of spaces.

At relatively low prices, RHL makes buying everything you need for college living a lot easier. On a student's budget, every cent counts and RHL makes sure of that.

The essentials are simple: bedding, towels, pillows, hampers, storage bins, and maybe a mini fridge along with a television.

There will always be a few things that you forget that's why Residence Hall Linens has great value packs so nothing is left behind. There is the The Complete Campus Collection that has every bedding and towel you could think of, along with a hamper and bedside buddy. The Student Starter Pack comes with the same items, just a lesser number, than the Complete Campus but still, everything you need is right there.

Buying these packs instead of buying individual items will save you money and it'll be great because everything will match. Determining a color amongst your items will help in distinguishing your stuff from your roommates.

Aside from the living essentials that you'll need, RHL has some great decor items to make your space feel more like home. It'll be nice to decorate your dorm with pictures, pillows, and rugs that fit your personality.

One of my favorite things to decorate with are wall canvases and posters. They are the perfect thing to add a bit of yourself into your dorm.

Here are two of my favorite pillows from them:

Once you're all decorated and your bed is made, storage is going to become a problem. I recommend using rubbermaid bins and under bed storage to make life easier. Storing summer clothes in the winter and vice versa under your bed will make more room in your closet. Making use of a hanging shoe organizer will also be helpful. Good thing RHL has everything you need for storage also!

The first year is going to be tough but after the first year, you will become a pro at moving in and storing all your belongings.

College is scary, I won't lie but it is an incredible experience that will shape you and make you a better person. By the time senior year comes around, you'll be wanting to handcuff yourself to your bed in order not to leave.

Happy shopping, freshmen!

Being away at college is a completely different experience than staying home, living in your parents house and commuting.

I will always persuade people to go away to college because it'll be the best four years of your life.

Nonetheless, being away at school is not just partying and living on your own; you still need to attend class and be a prepared student.

Aside from the typical dorm supplies such as mattress pads, bins, shoe racks, and an adorable comforter, I still love having all the great essentials needed for class.

1. Lilly Pulitzer Planner
I've expressed my love for this planner more than once. It's amazing
and it keeps me CRAZY organized. I'm in love!

2. Maybooks
Another thing I've gone overboard with talking about. I always feel the
need to have at least one extra notebook on hand at all times.
I have an excessive problem of making lists and sometimes
you just need more room to write other things; Maybooks
is perfect for that.

3. Vera Bradley Tote Bag
I have a bag problem; I would much rather spend money
on a good bag or tote than clothes any day.
My Vera tote is PERFECT for school; not too big,
not too small and they come in so many different
styles and patterns. Plus, because of the fabric it's made with, the straps
don't hurt your shoulders. I LOVE my Vera bag!

4. Eco Friendly Cup
I like bringing coffee or water with me to class and my Lilly Pulitzer
eco cup is great. I had a smaller one last year but I drink
so much water, I just had to keep refilling it. The Lilly cup
is so pretty in Navy Bloomers and a lot bigger than most
cups.

5. Vera Bradley Laptop Case
If you don't have a laptop case to protect your precious baby, you
are stupid. Seriously, it's necessary to have a good laptop case to carry
your laptop around campus in. Vera's cases are cute, pretty big, and
a great material. Basically anything from Vera is a A+ in my book.

6. ID Carded Wristlet
This is #1 in my book; all I carry on campus is my Lilly Pulitzer
Wristlet. I don't carry a bag (unless I'm headed to class) or a wallet, this is all you need.
It fits your phone, ID, cash, and credit cards, even a slot for a little lipgloss.
It's awesome!

Aside from these essentials, a great pencil pouch, a tiny makeup bag, and the typical stuff
like pens, notebooks, and a great binder.

These things will keep you more organized and ensure that you'll
have a great year.
