Showing posts with label health and wellness

I went off of birth control in January 2022 and honestly, life was never the same. My body went a little crazy; my cycles were all over the place, my PMS turned into PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder), and my mental health plummeted.

It got better after about 8 months but then things started getting weird again this past summer. My anxiety was pretty bad again, my cycles all out of whack and my sleep was not good. After some googling and enough sponsored posts, I decided to take the plunge and buy an Oura Ring.

I've been an avid user of activity trackers for years but none of them were ever exactly what I was looking for. Eventually, I stopped using them all and thought that was it - I would never use one again. I think the thing I didn't like about any of them was the fact that they were being worn on my wrist. I love jewelry but sometimes I just don't want to wear a bracelet.

However, rings are my favorite piece of jewelry and I never get sick of them so the Oura Ring seemed like the perfect solution. I knew it was going to be more accurate than wrist trackers, and the major selling point was the cycle syncing. I thought that if I was more aware of my cycle and the different phases, I'd be able to handle it better.

Oura Ring is synced up with Natural Cycles, which is a period tracking/fertility app, that takes your temperature every morning and can predict the start of your period. It seemed to be exactly what I needed.

This post is for the ladies and it's going to be a little TMI so proceed with caution.

I went off birth control in January of this year. I had been on it for 8 years and was just ready to be done with it. I was having horrible migraines and my mental health wasn't great. I thought that maybe the birth control was contributing to that so I figured I'd try to get off it.

Well, that was a mistake, and I kind of regret it. That's an entirely different post but basically, my mood swings and PMS symptoms have been out of control and I finally feel like now, 9 months later, my body has adjusted.

However, along with those mood swings and PMS comes a period like I haven't had since I was 15 years old. I used to get bad periods, like staying home from school, leaving school early, or, spending the day in the nurse's office bad.

Because of this, I needed a solution that wasn't panty liners, tampons, or pads. I wanted to be comfortable and didn't feel like dealing with disposable solutions. Menstrual cups are not something I want to try so that was definitely out. I had tried period underwear (both disposable and Thinx brand) before but wasn't impressed with the fit so I was at a loss.

Face masks are IN... haven't you heard? I surely hope you have! Since the start of the pandemic when we realized we were going to have to be wearing masks, companies started selling them. At first, not a lot of places were producing them; my first masks were from a boutique in my neighborhood, Alice & Olivia, and Etsy. The ones from my neighborhood were the most comfortable at first.

Now? Everyone is selling masks, whether their branded (like Kylie) or fresh, beautiful designs like Lele Sadoughi.

During the entire pandemic, I have been finding new masks to buy and love. Instead of buying makeup (which I haven't worn in the past few months), I've been all the masks. I like to have options, have them match different clothing styles, and also, I was them after every 1-2 uses so having a lot is a necessity.

What I've found from buying multiple different types of masks is that every mask is different. The sizing is different, the material is different and they all feel differently on the face. The one thing that is consistent? I can breathe while wearing all of them but yet they are strong enough that I feel protected.

I wanted to round up my favorite, most comfortable face masks that are available now!

Stoney Clover Lane Face Masks

I have two different styles of the SCL face masks but right now, only the pink/mint are available. I love the heart bead detailing on the side (this doesn't make them uncomfortable, I can't even feel the beads when I'm wearing the mask). These masks are thick and you can't feel your breath through them but yet, you can breathe easily in them. I've had their tie-dye face masks for longer which are slightly thicker than the pink/mint and are probably my most worn masks. SCL just released Terry Cloth masks which look even more comfy and perfect. I also love how you get two masks in a pack so more bang for your buck!

Lele Sadoughi Face Masks

If you can get your hands on these masks (they are hard to come by), you need them. They are the most comfortable, easy masks I own and I just wish I had more. They're so great, my mom stole one of them from me... The Lele masks come in a pack of three for $40 which seems fair when you think about it ($13 per mask) and in my opinion, are very well worth it. They are stretchy, very thin, easy to breathe in, and comfortable to wear. I also love how small they fold up and how portable they are. I have the Cloud set and have pre-ordered the Lucky Charms set... I can't wait for them to arrive to have more masks to choose from.

Masks by Jill and Ally

I ordered this tie-dye mask on a whim from Shop Betches and had no idea that it was created by Aly Shapiro, RHONY OG Jill Zarin's daughter. I also had no idea that Jill and Aly were hand-making these masks down in Florida throughout the entire pandemic. They might be a little more comfortable than the others on this list but they are also slightly more casual. Masks by Jill and Ally are handmade (you can see them making the masks on Instagram Stories) and come in tons of different colors, from pastel solids to tie-dye to black & white solid. The best part? When you buy one mask, Jill & Ally donate a mask to a healthcare worker.

Honestly, I love all three of these masks and cannot pick just one. I wear them when I'm in different moods and with different outfits. I highly recommend all three companies when it comes to their masks and is looking forward to picking up more from them soon!

What masks have you been wearing?

I have talked a lot about sleeping on the blog in the past. As I've gotten older, sleeping has become one of my favorite activities. I love to nap, I love to curl up in my bed after a long day and rest my eyes, I love relaxing in bed in the morning when I'm still tired, and I love waking up in the middle of the night to know I still have a few more hours of shut-eye.

That love doesn't come without its downsides... sometimes I have a lot of trouble falling asleep and/or staying asleep so I've come up with a handful of nightly routines to help those issues.

However, since the start of COVID, my sleeping patterns have unsurprisingly been really messed up. The state of the world is incredibly anxiety-inducing so it's no wonder that sleep would be affected.

The first few weeks of quarantine were rough on my mental health. The adjustment of working from home, the constant state of bad news, and living in the epicenter of the virus was really rough and I had to figure out how to sleep better.

I enlisted the help of a few trusty products plus some new additions to help me form a new and improved, and borderline full proof nightly routine. These are the products that help me fall asleep & stay asleep, night after night.

Pacifica Beauty Pillow Mist

Previously, I loved pillow mists but when I was diagnosed with a fragrance allergy in 2014, I stopped using them. However, I couldn't resist trying one again. This one from Pacifica caught my eye at the start of the quarantine and I knew I had to have it. The brand released an entire line of Lavender products and the pillow mist was too cute. I don't spray this directly on my pillow but on my blanket and the edge of my bed, that way I'm not actually sleeping on it all night. It does semi-relax me but I think of this more as a nice-to-have than a necessity.

*You can also use this on your body which I haven't done yet but I probably should!

Slip Sleep Mist

On another note, I recently received the Slip Sleep Mist in the mail from the brand and am loving it just as much as the Pacifica one! This is more of a room spray than an actual pillow/fabric mist and the lavender scent is a lot stronger. I notice the same calming effect and I love the way it makes my room smell... like a great air freshener. It also looks a lot more luxurious on my nightstand than the Pacifica one.

You don't need both mists but just decide if you want more of a pillow or room spray!

*Slip also sells a mini version of the mist

LUSH Sleepy Lotion

Another lavender product that I have talked about before... LUSH Sleepy Lotion is the best. It instantly relaxes me, doesn't feel sticky, and doesn't irritate my very sensitive skin. Even if I don't want to use it all over my body, I try to hydrate my hands with it before bedtime and the lavender scent puts me at ease. I wouldn't say it puts me to sleep but it puts me in the right frame of mind to unwind and relax, allowing me to be ready for bed.

Slip Silk Eye Mask

I haven't slept without an eye mask in years and last year, when I bought my first Slip Silk, I threw out every other mask I owned. Now, I have 4 of them and will never use anything else. They are super soft, don't scratch my face and feel light as air. Sure, they come off in the middle of the night but that's because I move around like a monkey in my sleep but my goodness, they are essential. The extra darkness helps me stay asleep (I like to sleep with the TV) and something about the weight on my eyes (even though the masks are very lightweight) is an added bonus. If you buy anything from this post, it has to be this eye mask. Life and sleep will be changed forever.

Slip Silk Pillowcase

Can you tell I love the brand Slip? No joke, they might be my top 5 favorite brands ever. I recently got my first Slip Silk pillowcase and it has made all the difference in my sleep (and my hair). It's very comfortable, soft and in some way, helps me fall asleep pretty quickly, even if I'm not that tired. I don't think Slip Silk pillowcases are supposed to help you sleep but it does for me at least. Also, my hair has not been as frizzy as usual when I sleep on this pillowcase which is enough for me to want to keep using it!

Weighted Blanket

Ok... I don't know if I talked about this before but now I have too... even if it's 90 degrees outside. A weighted blanket is going to change everything. While I need to do a deeper dive into the anxiety-reducing benefits of it, the sleep benefits are outrageous. I was sleeping under my Blanquil weighted every night at the beginning of the pandemic and was not waking up once in the middle of the night. I felt incredibly well-rested, peaceful, and just perfect. It's so amazing I could cry thinking about it. I can't wait for the weather to cool down so I could use this every night again. I will warn you though, you will sleep through alarms and loud noises when you use a weighted blanket -- it's like a sleep fortress.

Headspace App or ASMR

Just as everything else on this list, I talked about my love of Headspace Sleep in my Headspace post a few weeks back. I try to meditate every night before bed but then will also listen to a Sleep Story and within seconds, I'm fast asleep. Something about being told a story is very soothing but combine that with the white noise and a calming voice, and you've got a recipe for relaxation. I will also sometimes listen to an ASMR video from my favorite ASMR Youtube account "Lottie Loves ASMR". She makes the best videos that are super relaxing... I can't get enough!

All of these things help me have a good night's sleep and hopefully they will help you too! What do you use to help you sleep?

For the past few years, I've been on a huge wellness kick and I owe that to the wellness surge in society. I want to know everything that is going to make me feel better, look better, and be better. Whether that's helping my anxiety, improving my skin, or just giving me a better overall feeling of health and wellness.

Because of this kick, I've experimented with a few different supplements to try to find the best one(s) that make me feel good. I'm not talking about vitamins, which I need to be better about taking, but pure beauty, wellness, and health supplements.

Now, I'm not a doctor so I'm only going off of what I've tried myself and what has worked for me. I'm also someone who isn't afraid of medicine. I take more Advils that necessary and load up on allergy medicine, anxiety pills, supplements, and ibuprofen when I probably shouldn't. I know that is NOT good and I will probably develop an ulcer but it's just who I have always been, mostly because I cannot handle pain.

That being said, that's why I'm very experimental with what supplements I use. I understand that it is not for everyone but this is just my story.

Ok, now that we have that out of the way, let's get into my favorite supplements.

Juna CBD Oil

Is CBD a supplement? I consider it one because it's helping me combat a wellness issue! I just did a huge post on CBD products and how I use them and I mentioned the Juna World Nude CBD Oil. This was sent to me in PR and I am just obsessed. It has virtually no taste and one drop does the trick. I also love the aesthetic of the bottle... but that's not really important, it's the inside that counts. If you're looking to try a CBD oil, I recommend this one. You can take a drop alone or mix it into tea/coffee. It puts my mind at ease and allows me to relax a little more, giving me more clarity. It also helps to get to sleep much easier.

Hum Nutrition Big Chill Stress Management

I've talked about HUM Nutrition before and they are really the brand that kicked off my wellness supplement obsession. The Big Chill is my favorite anti-anxiety/stress supplement. I still use Nerve Tonic on the go but Big Chill is what I use when I'm feeling super on edge and Nerve Tonic just won't do the trick. I've used two bottles of this and it was out of stock EVERYWHERE for a while but I'm pretty sure it is back in stock at most retailers. One pill does the trick for me and once I take it, I feel calmer and less stressed. I definitely think this can be used for people who get stressed easily and not just if you are anxiety ridden. If you are having a hard day at work or home and need to just have a clearer mind to be able to think, Big Chill does that.

Hum Nutrition Beauty Zzz

This is the first supplement I ever tried. With my anxiety and before I started medication, I was having trouble sleeping. I didn't want to take melatonin because I was afraid of being groggy the next day... also, I just wanted to try something fancy and not straight up melatonin from the drugstore *I always have to be the slightest bit extra* $10 from Sephora? There's nothing better than this. Beauty Zzz puts me right to sleep in the best way possible; just a little drowsy and then I sink into a beautifully restful sleep and don't feel gross the next day. I hate Nyquil and any medicine that makes me sleepy because I wake up feeling like a truck hit me. When I know I need a good nights sleep or just feel super restless, these babies save the day.

Love Wellness Co Bye Bye Bloat

Love Wellness Co is another supplement brand that has made it big recently. It was started by Lo Bosworth of Laguna Beach & The Hills fame so obviously, I was intrigued (Lo was always my FAV). While I've been aware of the company for a while it wasn't until recently that I found a supplement that I was searching for. The weeks leading up to my period, I get insanely bloated... just like every other woman in the world. However, it was so incredibly uncomfortable, to the point that I felt uncomfortable in LEGGINGS and it nearly drives me to tears. Finally, I was on Revolve and saw the Bye, Bye Bloat pills and didn't even think twice about purchasing it. I've taken the pills a few times now (the first time I got really nauseous but I didn't eat before when it clearly says to have with food on the bottle). The day after taking these pills (I take them at night after a bloated day) I feel instantly better. I feel at least 5 pounds lighter and the gross feeling is completely gone. They have been a lifesaver these past few months.

Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides

If you follow me on Instagram (@bribrilukes) you know that I bought these a few months ago and have not turned back. Vital Proteins Collagen has been something I've been eyeing for close to a year after hearing one of my favorite YouTubers, Allie Sevdalis, talk about them incessantly on her channel. I wasn't really feeling them... I was scared to mix them in with coffee/tea/etc and I didn't think I needed collagen. My hair grows like a weed and my nails are pretty strong but I was still curious. While running errands one day I ran into GNC and saw that they had a sampler pack of the collagen peptides and for $12, I couldn't just leave it in the store. After trying them for a week, I bought a full size on Sephora.com. I was blown away! These are NO TASTE, like not even a hint of a taste which is so important to me. Then, throughout the day, I just felt better. I wasn't as moody and felt a little more clear. I googled to see if collagen had an effect on mood because that was something I really noticed, and in fact, it does! I haven't noticed a huge difference in my hair but my nails have been stronger and don't break as easily, especially my toenails (gross). There is rarely a day I don't mix these into my coffee and I could not recommend enough. *I use the regular old peptides in the blue packaging but the coffee creamer ones are so delicious*.

What are your favorite wellness supplements? Suggestions are always welcome ;)

What has been your experience with supplements? Are you on board? Let's talk in the comments!

CBD is everywhere right now, including here on Royally Pink. I blogged about my favorite CBD beauty products a few weeks ago but now I'm ready to discuss how I use it for my mental health.

When I first heard about CBD I was pretty pumped about it. I've been using Nerve Tonic to relax for years but something a little more natural and ~trendy~ sounded right up my alley. I am on anxiety medication but CBD is good to provide an extra boost of relaxation and relief.

If you have not heard, CBD is having a major moment. Everyone is using CBD, whether they're ingesting it or wearing it on their face... CBD is IN.

As I've mentioned previously, CBD is a natural anti-inflammatory and is taken from the marijuana plant but does not have the effects of THC, which is what gets you high. CBD is said to have natural ways of signaling the serotonin system, which gives off the same effect (only faster) of an SSRI (what most anti-anxiety and depression medications are classified as).

CBD can also help the hippocampus (part of the brain that can be smaller in people with anxiety and depression) regenerate neurons. I won't continue to get too medical on you but if you want to learn more about how CBD can help anxiety, in technical terms, you can read here.

From my personal experience, I have tried a few forms of CBD and I can say, every one of them has helped mine immensely. I am someone who will try anything once when it comes to helping my anxiety and stress.

I've tried three different types of CBD products and I'll take you through them so you can decide what is best for you.

CBD Oil

This is the first type of CBD product I tried and the only one that I've tried two different brands of. I started using the Charlotte's Web Mint Chocolate CBD Oil probably back in July or August and I've really enjoyed it. The first time I tried this oil, I took a drop under the tongue and almost vomited. I felt incredibly sick afterward and just hated the taste. However, it did calm me down.

I was scared to try it again but this time I mixed two drops into my peppermint tea and wow, the taste was not there and I felt so incredibly at ease. It made me only a little sleepy but I felt my body relax only after a few sips; my mind also felt a little more clear which was nice too.

I exclusively used this brand (and the same bottle because it lasts FOREVER) until a few weeks ago when I received a bottle of Juna World CBD Oil in PR mail. Well, Juna is my favorite and I much prefer it over Charlotte's Web. It doesn't have a flavor or taste so I can just take a drop in my mouth and not feel gross. I also like the way the Juna makes me feel; I feel calmer and more at ease in a faster amount of time and it doesn't make me as sleepy.

CBD Gummies

Since my first time trying CBD oil I knew I wanted to experiment with gummies as well. After doing some research and a recommendation from The Skinny Confidential, I knew the Sunday Scaries gummies were the ones for me. They are a little expensive, $30 for only 20 gummies but they are worth every penny. I've gone through 3-4 bottles of these over the past few months and they are my preferred method of CBD. Two gummies at night instantly relax you, like every worry in the world has been lifted off your shoulders. Two of these gummies also put me right to sleep which is the best feeling after a long, stressful day. These taste pretty good and only have a very slight after taste but they're my favorite and go-to. I feel like everyone should try these at least once. They will change your life.

CBD Pen

To complete the trio of CBD, I needed to try a CBD pen. I've experimented with oral aromatherapy through MONQ so I knew I could handle a CBD pen. After some research, I decided that Select CBD was the most cost-effective and right for me; some CBD companies won't ship pens to you so Select CBD was perfect. I chose the Lavender pen so I could inhale it right before sleep, to add that extra boost of relaxation. Before I go to sleep or when I'm feeling particularly anxious, I take 2-3 puffs of the pen. The pen doesn't put me to sleep as fast as the oil or gummies but I do feel like I get a good night to sleep with it.

If I had to choose only one of these products to use to ease anxiety or stress, I'd pick the gummies, then the pen and then finally the oil. That's just how they work for me and how they make me feel.

If anyone has any other experiences with CBD products, let me know! I would love to hear how CBD has worked or hasn't worked for others.

Sleeping is not something I ever really struggled with but as I've gotten older and my anxiety has gotten worse, my sleeping patterns haven't been that great. It takes me forever to fall asleep and then I'm up at all hours of the night and exhausted the next day.

I've been very into wellness lately and reading up more on sleep so it's become more important to me than ever. There have been a few different products and techniques that have not only been helping me get more sleep but more peaceful sleep and better wellness all around.

Taking a few minutes to do these things each night and have helped me calm down a lot before heading to bed each night.

For some of the things mentioned, I'm going to do separate posts on where I review them in detail and give me thoughts.

Side note, I know I did a post on this last year but these are a few different techniques that have been helping me recently. Oil diffusing, reading, and a sleep mask still help greatly!

Skincare Routine

This sounds so weird but I promise, it's been helping. Every night I've been taking some time for myself to decompress before bed. That consists of deep cleaning my face, applying oils and moisturizers and using a Jade Roller. Those few minutes to myself, to take care of myself are essential to winding down and calming me for a good rest.

Meditation

I cannot wait to give you a full review on my meditation habits but for the past few months I've been using Headspace and it's almost the only way I could fall asleep. It has been so helpful in helping my fall asleep and stays asleep. I pair it with my airpods and it helps me fall into a really deep sleep.

CBD

There is a post coming on this as well but I've been using a few different CBD products over the past few months, mostly for my anxiety but it has nice sleep benefits too. I use the Sunday Scaries gummies and the Charlotte's Web Hemp Oil; the gummies have been a total lifesaver in helping me calm myself down enough to get to sleep. I never want to be without CBD again... it has changed my sleeping and anxiety forever.

KlovaSleep Patch

I stumbled across this brand of sleep patches on Nordstrom's website a while ago and was very intrigued by them. After one use I was hooked! It's basically like taking a melatonin pill but it's in patch form. I don't use it every night because I don't want to have to rely on it but sometimes when I feel like I won't be able to sleep, I'll use it. It doesn't make me feel drowsy like typical melatonin but just slowly makes me fall asleep without even realizing it. One thing I'll say is that they leave a mark on your skin, like some of the stickiness from the back of the patch gets left on your skin. It eventually comes off but it's just worth mentioning.

What are some of the ways you get a good nights sleep?

This post is sponsored by Summer's Eve ® but all opinions and content is my own

When I 'came of age' as a young lady in my teen years, my mom taught me that it's important to take care of myself, to be super hygienic and to keep myself healthy and clean. I'm talking about my vagina -- (oh my God, I said it on the Internet!) and keeping the lady bits fresh, clean and healthy.

To me, there has always been one brand that I trust with my feminine hygiene, the brand that has been at the forefront of teaching us how to care for ourselves for almost 40 years.

Summer's Eve ®.

I remember the first time I used Summer's Eve ® and I just felt good knowing that I was using something that would keep me clean and not irritate my skin.

Around 15 years later, I'm still a loyal Summer's Eve ® customer and I am very happy to be partnering with them today!

I never wash my lady parts with regular soap or body wash -- I always have a bottle of Summer's Eve ® in my house and don't even get me started on the cleansing cloths-- those are a LIFESAVER and I pretty much never leave the house without one of them. They're very helpful for after the gym, or just on the go. They are especially handy to keep yourself fresh at that time of the month.

Summer's Eve ® was never afraid to put it all out there -- they are the expert on feminine hygiene and health, but they do it in a way that educates us on the importance of these products. it's something I've admired and why I am so loyal to Summer's Eve.

Like I said, this has been ingrained in my brain since a young age and I've been obsessed with the brand ever since I was around 11 years old. I'm always interested to try our Summer's Eve ® new products and new scents but this new line takes the cake.

When I saw the Simply Line, I was more than excited. I'm not one to think about ingredients in my cosmetics products even though I know I definitely should. However, Summer's Eve ® has made it so simple you don't even have to think about it.

I've been using the Coconut Water Cleansing Cloths, the Lavender and Chamomile Gentle Foaming Wash and the Lavender and Chamomile Cleansing Wash. I've always used Cleansing Wash and the Cloths, but the Foaming Wash is new to me and it's just as incredible as other Summer's Eve ® products.

Both the foaming and cleansing washes do the same thing, it's just up to your preference which you would rather use!

The Simply line is free from dyes (who wants dyes in their feminine hygiene products?!), parabens and alcohol (another thing you definitely don't want in your feminine products). They also are infused with botanical extracts and are balanced for our natural pH. The botanical extracts allow for a gentle, effective cleaning -- what more can you possibly want?

The Simply Line (especially the cleansing cloths in my opinion) give you a burst of freshness when you need it. The coconut water cleansing cloths are super gentle and honestly just feel really nice. As I mentioned before I'm not one to worry about ingredients but I can really rest easy knowing that at least I am treating my lady parts nicely and using products that won't irritate me or affect me in a negative way.

I have always loved Summer's Eve ® and the Simply line just gives me more to love!

Have you used Summer's Eve ® products?

Self-care was a buzzword last year and it has continued well into 2018. To me, the definition of self-care is simple: it's doing what you need to do to care for yourself, to make sure you're in the best mental state.

Self-care could be saying no to going out on Saturday night, it could be going to the gym to clear your head, or simply having a cup of tea and reading a book. Self-care is taking care of yourself first, whether that is mental, physical, or emotion.

Self-care can be defined differently for everyone based on your interests and what eases you. When I'm in need of self-care, I light a few candles, stay off the computer, do a face mask and watch my favorite TV show.

Maybe if I'm feeling anxious, I'll go to the gym, come home and read a book. The possibilities are truly endless with self-care.

Since self-care and wellness have become their own industry, other industries have been cashing in on the buzz as well. That includes the beauty industry...

While I don't think these are marketed as self-care beauty items, I definitely classify them as that. I use them when I need a pick me up, or just need to better myself.

1. Ole Henriksen Cold Plunge Mask: I have been intrigued by this mask since it came on the scene and I bought it last week. I've used it about 3 times since then and I'm in love. To me, it's the definition of a self-care mask because it's tingly, a gorgeous blue color, and it shows results -- my pores looked tighter after use and my skin looked more fresh & clear. Last week I was having an off day so I decided to take time with my skincare routine and apply this mask. Adding a few extra minutes of relaxation time was key and this mask was a huge factor in it. It also leaves a minty feeling on your skin afterward which I love!

2. AERIN Rose Lip Conditioner: Ever want to pamper yourself or just give yourself an extra luxurious feeling? That's when I use the AERIN Rose Lip Conditioner. Something about the packaging mixed with the rose scent and the balmy texture of this product makes me feel like a million bucks.

3. Jade Roller: Jade rolling is all the rage nowadays and I've had mine for a few months. However, I didn't spend $40+ on it; I bought the Jade Roller from Amazon for around $8 and it works just as well. It's naturally cool so when you roll it on your face, you get that icy feeling which contributes to the depuffing that Jade Rolling does. There's also something very relaxing about giving yourself a little face massage when you're feeling stressed.

4. Clean and Clear Night Relaxing Jelly Eye Sheet Mask: When I received this product for PR a few months back I wasn't expecting to fall in love with it. The point of this mask is pure relaxation; it covers the upper half of your face and eyes where stress and sleepiness show the most. It also has seaweed extract to help replenish and nourish the skin. Whenever I need some help falling asleep or just need to really relax and recharge, I throw this mask on, close my bedroom door, light a candle and diffuse some oil and just close my eyes. It is so refreshing and probably the most relaxing beauty product I have in my collection. I simply cannot get enough and highly recommend for everyone!

5. Josie Maran Argan Oil: Whenever I want to take my time with my skincare routine to give myself an extra boost of self-care, I reach for an oil -- specifically the OG Argan Oil. It seeps into the skin immediately, feels incredible when applying it and leaves your face glowing. I'm obsessed and want to slather this all over my body (which I sometimes do!)

6. LUSH Sleepy Lotion: Whenever I need to really relax, get a good nights sleep or even just wind down, this lavender scented lotion is my go-to. It's super moisturizing, very relaxing, and the scent is just divine. I highly recommend to everyone!!

What are your self-care beauty items?

In two short months, I’ll be one year into Weight Watchers and I’m still down around 25 pounds. When I started this journey I didn’t think I’d hit that number, but as I lost the weight and the weight stayed off, I wasn’t expecting to still be at that number.

It’s been a struggle, to say the least, because I’ve been at a standstill for a while since February to be exact. I referenced this and my struggle with the Freestyle system in my last post and while I’m having slightly better luck (I lost weight two weeks ago but then quickly gained a pound back), it’s still hard.

What is different this month is that I’ve been inspired. Did I have a bag of M&Ms last week and not count the points? Yes, I did because sometimes my self-control is just not there.

However, I really made a stride in my mindset toward the program and how I eat. After discovering an online community on Instagram all about Weight Watchers (as a blogger and a social media professional, how has it taken me this long to discover this?) I’m inspired by new recipes and the idea of meal prepping.

Trader Joes Hashbrowns; 2 egg muffins

I’ve been going to Trader Joe’s a lot more (once a week) to stock up on delicious, low point foods. I had no idea how full of Weight Watchers approved items TJ’s was! It’s amazing and so comforting knowing that.

I also have been following weight watchers hashtags and accounts to find new recipes and ways people are using their points.

In the past two weeks I’ve been making egg muffins for breakfast, cauliflower rice as a 0 point side for lunch at work, and planning on what to make for dinner and for sweet treats that are low in points.

The community on Instagram has really been so helpful in seeing that there are ways to get your snack on and eat what you crave without going overboard.

I even started my own little separate Instagram to highlight my meals (when I remember to Instagram them before eating)

This update is short and a little all over the place because I’m starving (so fitting) but basically, Weight Watchers is still working for me. I’m not gaining any weight and keeping it off, just as I have for the past few months.

I have my good days and I have my bad days. I need to learn to use my weekly points because that is what they are there for -- TO BE USED. I need to get better about tracking everything, even if I know it will put me over the daily usage (but again, weeklies are there for a reason).

Finding new recipes is really helping me and getting me excited about the program again. That being said, I will probably do 'Weight Watchers Wednesdays' a lot more than once a month, and it'll include more than an update on how I'm doing. I really want to incorporate more recipes that are low in points and in turn, low calorie but very tasty.

I hope you'll all stay tuned and continue with me on this little journey!

Since I was a little girl I loved being alone. My mom tells me stories of how I would sit in my room for hours, on the floor, playing with my 'people'. She would call out to me "Briana, come sit with Mommy" and as a 2-3 year old girl I'd shout back "I'm playing with my people!"

As I got older, my room was always a safe haven. I could entertain myself for hours reading books, writing stories, watching TV or just relaxing. I don't need a lot to keep myself occupied and I'm perfectly fine entertaining myself.

Maybe it has to do with the fact that I was first born so for 3 years, I did have to occupy myself and maybe it has to do with the fact that my sister and I are very different so we never really liked the same things... so I always had to occupy myself.

However, I'm just someone who is content being alone. I can do things on my own time without having to worry aboout other people, and can really do whatever I want when I'm alone.

If I'm shopping alone I can go to whatever store I want; I can go to eat wherever I want, and I can leave the mall whenever I want. If I'm out with my friends, I usually always bring my own car so I know I can leave whenever I want too.

Maybe I just don't like relying on other people (as I'm writing this I'm having a deep psychological revealation) but I think it's just that I don't mind being alone.

When I went to college, it was a really big adjustment because I was NEVER EVER alone. I'd cherish the mornings when I would wake up and all 9 of my roommates were still asleep, or if I was the first one to get back to the room after a long weekend. It was just nice to escape and be by myself. It was a very overwhelming experience to constantly being surrounded by people 24.7.

Within a year, I got really used to it and by senior year, I never wanted to be alone. I craved people's company and always wanted to be doing something. It was a culture shock when I came back home and I was alone all the time again. I no longer enjoyed being alone and I think that's why I became so depressed.

I've since found a good balance and I think I realize why alone time is important. Below are a few reasons why I think being alone is a good thing... (at times)

  • You learn more about yourself and what makes you happy.
  • You get away from the hustle and bustle of the world and can really think things through
  • Relax! Being alone means you can rest and relax with anyone bothering you. Recharge those batteries!
  • Hobbies; when you're alone you have time to do the things you like. For me it's writing and reading, for you it may be drawing or crafting!
  • Pampering: I love to pamper myself when I'm chilling alone. Face masks and hair masks galore!
I really do think it's important to be alone sometimes because if you don't want to spend time with yourself, who else will?
