Showing posts with label new years

2022 was a year of change and growth in so many ways. I learned a lot about myself, let go of past issues and feel like I came into my own. I felt like I woke up from a dream and started realizing how I want to live my life.

2022 was the year I turned 30 and while in January, I felt very hesitant and scared for how I would react to this major change, when it was all said and done I was pretty ok with this milestone. I didn't freak out, I didn't go running for the hills and rather I was completely at peace with turning 30.

New Years is my least favorite holiday of all time. I would rather celebrate anything other than New Year's Eve. I chalk it up to never having plans and feeling too pressured to have fun -- it just isn't my ideal night.

However, last year I had a great New Years in with some friends and it changed my perspective. If I could have a night in with my friends, in comfortable clothes, eating junk food and watching TV I'm set.

I think a night in on New Year's Eve is perfection and you could have a ton of fun, without spending hundreds of dollars at a restaurant, being in a crowded bar with people you don't know, and no uncomfortable clothes needed. I would rather spend my final moments of 2018 surrounded by friends and comfortable space than anywhere else.

However, you can definitely spruce up your night and make it festive and fancy.

Fashion & Beauty

It's no secret that I love to remain comfortable so on a New Year's night in, that is essential. Throw on a fun, festive graphic tee with leggings and then add so much SPARKLE. Wear your sparkly, fancy rings and big earrings to really make it feel like New Year's. Channel your inner Carrie Bradshaw in a big fur coat, pearls, and pajamas.

I'll be wearing my 'I'll Be There in a Prosecco' Shirt I grabbed from Target last year, my white faux fur J.Crew coat and a rose gold Kate Spade pearl necklace.

In the beauty department, don't skimp on the glitter. Just because you'll be sitting on the couch doesn't mean you shouldn't look your NYE best! Go heavy on the glitter eyeshadow, the Champagne Pop highlighter (because what other highlighter are you wearing on NYE?) and a red lip!

Treat Bar

Set up a little area with food, drinks, and snacks to make it feel a little more like a party; plus, you can adorn it with New Years Eve props and decorations. I imagine black and gold confetti, 2019 balloons and photo props, and pretty champagne flutes. Throw in some Sugarfina Champagne Bears and other alcohol candy for extra cuteness and sweetness.

All the Champagne

Champagne is my favorite part of life. I love to drink it, I love how fancy it makes me feel and I love how gorgeous it is. It is by far my favorite part of New Year's Eve. I love champagne accessories and decor; everything from jewelry to phone cases to makeup bags. Nowadays, everyone is jumping on the champagne train so I'm very happy about that because there is so much more available.

Don't forget a few card games, a TV to watch the ball drop, and delicious food and desserts!

I hope you all have a safe, beautiful and lovely night ringing in 2019!

I say it every year but I hate/despise New Year's Eve. I think it's overrated and an excuse to get drunk and I just can't be bothered with it.

This year I actually had plans with my friends but then woke up this morning with the worst cold ever so I'm staying local with a few friends.

Aside from the actual party theme of New Years, I enjoy the idea of a fresh start. Ever since I turned 25 last month I have been feeling like I'm on the verge of change... big change so I'm nervous and excited to see what the year holds.

I've already made a few big changes this year (i.e Weight Watchers) but I really hope 2018 brings more and better change.

That being said, I have been really into the idea of trying to make the year good before it even starts... I'm talking about New Year's Eve superstitions.

I've always been a sort of superstitious person; never putting your shoes on the table, salt over the shoulder... just the usual ones. There are a bunch of old wives tales about what you should and shouldn't do on New Year's Eve & Day and this year, I'm going to do them all.

I mean, what's the harm? I always have a shitty year without doing them so maybe if I actually do them, it'll somehow work? I've been very into astrology, moonscopes, and all things spiritual and healing for the second half of the year so this is right up my alley.

I did a little research and these are just a few simple superstitions to take today.

1. Change your sheets: I already did this and I try to do it every year but starting the year with clean sheets is supposed to bring good luck... it's also a little more sanitary! (LOL)

2. Open the doors and windows at midnight: This is supposed to let out all the evil spirits and helps you ring the in the new year with good vibes.

3. Make a lot of noise: Ever wonder why we set off fireworks, bang pots & pans, and have noisemakers? This is also to ward off evil spirits to ensure a good year!

4. Write your wishes down & burn them: This isn't something that is specific to New Years, it's always been an old wives tale to burn your deepest desires to let them out into the universe. It's just an extra bonus to do it on NYE.

5. Don't throw anything away: On New Year's Day, nothing should leave the house (that isn't going to come back in) and don't throw anything away. This means don't shake out a rug, don't donate clothes, don't even take the trash out. The year shouldn't start with subtracting from the home before you add to it.

Do you believe in superstitions? Will you be doing any of these good luck charms?

Happy 2018 everyone!

The new year is here and as much as I dislike New Years Eve, I really love the first week in January when everything feels new again.

Even on New Years Eve, as soon as the clock turns midnight, something inside me shifts and I feel different. I don't know how long this feeling lasts, but ultimately, it's a pleasant feeling. My favorite day is January 1st; while others opt to spend New Years Day as another holiday, in my house, it's an official rest day.

Myths have it that the way you spend New Years Eve/Day is how you spend the rest of the year; you must have something new to wear, clean sheets on your bed, and the house must be tidy. I've never abided by these silly rules until this year.

On New Years Eve I made sure my bed was made, my room and *most* of the house was neat, and that I wore something I've never worn before.

I spent New Years Day feeling ultimately relaxed and in a really good mood. I went to the gym, cleaned out my drawers and threw away old, unused items, and read a lot of books. It just felt like a really good day, and it made me hopeful for the year ahead.

It's a much different attitude from the New Years Eve post on Saturday, but I'm quite pleased.

I also spent some time thinking of what I want to accomplish this year. Like I mentioned in the previous post, I don't wait for January 1st to make a change, and I don't make resolutions. I try and set goals -- does it ever really happen? Not that much...

Let's take a look at what I said in 2016,

"In 2016, I hope that I can achieve what I've been wanting to achieve in work, in the blog, in my personal life. I want to start writing more, both freelance and creatively. I want to put more time and effort into my blog and into my own social media.

I want to save money instead of spending it. I want to travel a lot more, and go out and see the world. I finally have the desire to have more of a social life and make plans with my friends and go out and actually do things!"

I achieved what I felt necessary in work, and really made some strides in my freelance career, being published on Readers Digest & getting some more Elite Daily articles written.

I think the blog is finally where I want it in terms of design, shopping widgets, and other features like categories at the top of the page.

I didn't travel as much, didn't save as much (but decreased shopping habits), and I do think I went out a little bit more. I said no a lot less to social activities and I want to maintain that.

I definitely set manageable goals last year for myself so let's take a look at 2017:

2017 goals-new year-resolutions

  • Gym Often: I've kept a good pace of going to the gym this entire Christmas break. I go back to work tomorrow so I'm hoping that I can keep it up. After Christmas I set the goal to lose weight, eat healthier, and go to the gym. So far, so good and it's only been a week. This is the goal I want to focus on most this year. Let's do it!
  • Finish Writing My Book: I have a few ideas on the shelf and this year I am determined to finish one of them. I have a hard time setting aside book writing time because so much of my spare time is dedicated to blog or freelance writing. I need to find some time to book write and get it done.
  • Travel: Taking this form 2016, I want to do something about this. I have a few potential trips planned to various places and I hope at least one of them works out.
  • Blog: This is a goal that is never ending. Now that I'm happy with the design and function, I want to work with more brands, and find exciting ways to create new content. I don't want to produce the same things over and over again, I need to branch out.

For good measure, I want to read more books, watch more television shows, see more movies, spend more time with my friends, and sight see New York.

I've got a busy year ahead of me, so let's get started!

Why I Dislike New Years Eve

in , , by RoyallyPink, 7:30 AM
Is that title too pessimistic? It might be but it's the total truth. While everyone else is running around making plans for New Years Eve, getting their hair done, and planning out sparkly outfits, I'm being a complete scrooge and don't even have any set plans yet.

I've always hated New Years Eve...like despised the holiday. When I was younger, I'd go to huge parties with my family and it was ok, I didn't even realize it was New Years Eve. As I got older, the pressure was on...find a nice dress, go to a party, have fun. You MUST have fun!

That's the #1 reason I hate New Years Eve...it's overrated. I love the idea of starting fresh and leaving the year behind you but why do I have to put on uncomfortable heels and get drunk with people I don't know or people I don't like to honor it?

I'd much rather sit at home in pajamas, eat frozen appetizers that I heated up in the oven, and watch Ryan Seacrest on Dick Clark's Rockin Eve...but that's unacceptable.

I'm a huge homebody, if you haven't already found that out and the thought of going out on a night that is basically telling me I have to have a good time no matter what, makes me not want to have a good time.

I don't need some crazy party to signify the end of the year and ring in the new one. I hate feeling pressured to have fun and hate holidays like that...4th of July, Memorial Day Weekend, Labor Day Weekend...like dude, just leave me alone.

Last year me and a few friends from my hometown had a party and it was honestly the best New Years Eve I had in a while. We dressed nice, ate food, drank, sat around, watched TV and spent time together. It was the perfect little get together.

With that said, who knows where I'll be tomorrow night...I'm ready for 2015 and all the goodness it will hopefully bring me. I don't need strangers, sparkles, and champagne to make it happen.

I know I blogged already about my resolutions and goals but head over to UChic.com and read my post on how to MAKE and KEEP your 2013 resolutions :)

Also, I'm part of another bloghop :)
