GUEST POST: by Melissa Lobo

Anybody would love to look and feel beautiful. Anybody would love to have perfect skin, a perfect body, perfect facial features and so on. And because so many people want to improve their physical appearance and overall health, companies have found an opportunity to do business by meeting the demands of those who want to feel good--both inside and out.

Today, there’s a plethora of beauty supplements in the market--all promising great looks (or at least, an improvement) for those who desire them. Whether they be for the face, skin or body, supplements are continuously being developed to enhance anything that consumers want to improve in themselves.

For instance, breast pills have gained popularity among those who desire bigger breasts, or who’d like them to be more proportionate to their body or body type. There are also skin supplements which are meant to make your skin look healthier, younger. There are likewise dietary supplements for those who want to shed pounds but are often too busy or tired to go to the gym. And while there are so many brand names and types of supplements available in the market, it can be hard to figure out what suits you best.

In Pursuit of Beauty
There seem to be a lot of options when it comes to health and beauty supplements, and choosing what will best work for you can be a little confusing, possibly even overwhelming. So, if you’d like to try the power of beauty supplements, here’s a guide to help you get started.

  1. Multivitamins. Yes, you have to start with multivitamins. If you think that multivitamins are just taken to strengthen your immune system, combat disease and keep up your energy, then you’re only partly right. Multivitamins play a huge part in making you look young and beautiful: As the experts say, if you are healthy on the inside, it will reflect on the outside.
When you are well, your skin glows, your hair is lustrous, and you don’t look haggard or stressed out. Multivitamins are effective and useful in filling in the nutritional gaps caused by the lack of nutrients in your diet. Whether we like it or not, we need to face the truth that we don’t always eat the foods that are meant to keep us at optimum health, and we love eating empty calories from food that’s essentially junk, much of it processed.

A good multivitamin provides your body with all the vitamins and minerals it needs. While most of the reliable brands aren’t cheap, you are guaranteed that you get what you pay for.

  1. Biotin. Biotin, which is also known as Vitamin H, is essential for keeping your hair strong and healthy. When you’re stressed out, it becomes evident in the condition of your hair. Biotin supplements help keep your hair, nails, and skin stay healthier.  Also sometimes referred to as “hair food,” biotin is highly recommended for those who have brittle hair and those suffering from hair loss.
  1. Lysine. Supplementing your diet with lysine is highly recommended for those who experience significant hair loss, which can be especially evident while you’re taking a shower. Lysine is an amino acid that helps build protein; it is good for the hair because your hair is composed exactly of -- well-- protein. Aside from fortifying your hair, lysine also makes your scalp healthy and can stimulate hair growth.
  1. Retinol. Retinol is a vitamin A compound which aids in the development of new skin. Even those who have dry skin are strongly encouraged to supplement their diet with retinol. Not only that. Apart from your skin, you can benefit from the fact that retinol is also a supplement for the brain. It boosts memory and enhances learning ability, which is why it is also recommended for students.
  1. Ceramides. Ceramides are often seen in topical products and are rarely found in oral form. This supplement is also for the skin, especially for those who have eczema and dry skin.
  1. Vitamin C. Vitamin C is essential to your body. Aside from helping you fight common sickness and infections, vitamin C aids in the healing of skin and reduces the appearance of wrinkles. It has the ability to reduce cell damage and can act as an antioxidant. And the reason why most adults are encouraged to take vitamin C is because it can slow down the aging process.
  1. Fish Oil. Experts recommend fish oil for various purposes including weight loss, skin regeneration, hair growth and even certain psychological disorders. However, high and frequent doses can be dangerous because it contains high level of toxins so make sure that you consult your doctor to find the right dosage for you.
  1. Manuka Honey. Manuka honey is not the typical honey because it contains higher levels of enzymes. It is effective in treating acne, so if you have a breakout, you can use manuka honey as a supplement. You can take it directly, mix it with tea, or use it as a mask at least once a week.
  1. Spearmint. Spearmint is also an excellent solution for acne because of its anti-inflammatory properties. You can take spearmint as capsules or you can drink spearmint tea to cure or prevent acne. However, having too much of spearmint can be dangerous to your liver so make sure you don’t use it excessively.
  1. Vitamin E. Vitamin E is also considered as a skin vitamin because it is an antioxidant which means that it has the ability to destroy free radicals. It is effective in slowing down the signs of aging and is helpful in preventing heart disease. This vitamin is what you need if you want to achieve a clearer complexion and younger looking skin because it reduces the appearance of wrinkles. Vitamin E can also treat sunburn and as well as acne.
  1. Zinc. Zinc, just like Vitamin E, also promotes clearer complexion. It reduces the appearance of scars and pimple marks, and is also useful in preventing or treating acne. Zinc is essential in collagen production which aids in skin growth and repair.
  1. Vitamin D. Vitamin D is popular for helping the body absorb calcium, but it can also treat skin irritation and inflammation. You might want to supplement your diet with this vitamin during the colder months because it is effective in treating flaking and itching of the skin.

Now that the use of supplements to achieve better health and beauty has gained more popularity, it is crucial that you have knowledge about them to ensure correct usage and to maximize their benefits.
Today's post is a guest post about how to take the best photos for your social media. While I've definitely gotten better at photos in the past few years (especially because of my social media job) but we could all use some tips to get by!

****

These days it’s easy for anyone with a smartphone and an Instagram account to call themselves a photographer. But it takes more than a cool filter and a selfie stick to capture a great picture. And although we can’t all carry professional cameras around with us, there are plenty of ways to improve your smartphone photography skills!

Here are 5 quick and easy tips to help you step up your photo game!

  1. Know Your Light Source
Bad lighting can easily ruin an otherwise great shot. Find the nearest light source and make sure your subject is facing it. Natural lighting is always going to be your best option. Don’t rely on your camera’s harsh flash unless absolutely necessary.

2. Utilize Your Space
The subject of your photo doesn’t always have to be centered in the frame. Experiment with negative space and creative backgrounds, to really craft some unique compositions!

3. Hold Still
Unless you’re taking a selfie, you should be making sure to steady your phone with both hands when taking a picture. This might seem obvious, but you’d be surprised at the difference two hands can make in decreasing blur in a photo.

4. Do Some Post Production
If you really want your photos to pop, you should take some additional time to edit them before you post. There are some wonderful, and easy-to-use photo-editing apps out there like Snapseed that can help you to really make your pics stand out!

5. Don’t Be Too Precious
Whether you choose to display your pics on social media, or in a new-age smart frame like this one, people are only going to see your best photos. So in an effort to save space on your phone, it’s a good idea to be in the habit of deleting pictures you know you’ll never use. Do you really need 10 pictures of that sunset?

What are some of your own smartphone photography tricks?
When Sally reached out to me with an idea for a guest post, I was very intrigued. I am not one for homemade beauty DIYs even though I wish I could be, but if I'm being honest, I get lazy and am a little too squeamish for some of these.

*I tried to use canned pumpkin to bake something last week and literally had to have my mom throw it out because the smell made me sick...

Anyways, Sally had this really fun idea for unique homemade beauty treatments and a few of them (almost all of them) took me by surprise. I am probably going to try at least one, and that one will be the cocoa powder (you'll see when you get to it!)

Before we get into it, here's a bit about Sally and where you can find her!

Sally Mitchell began her career as a makeup artist, and after receiving a diploma in Clinical Dermatology decided to combine her passions for makeup artistry and skin care becoming a licensed beauty professional. Now she shares the latest cutting-edge skin care treatments with readers of Lumeskin

Now, here are a few of her best DIY beauty treatments!

  • PotatoesStarch is something we are told to stay far away from. Not when it comes to your hair though ladies. Raw potatoes make for an exceptional scalp renewing scrub. To make the scrub, mix equal parts of raw potatoes, some loose tea, you can get a Lipton teabag for this. Add olive oil and slowly massage your scalp with your fingertips in circular motions. Rinse out with warm water.
  • Bananas: Bananas work magic on dehydrated hair. Take a banana and mashed it with half of an avocado. Dampen your hair and leave it in 15 minutes, and at least 30 minutes as a deep treatment. Twist your hair into a bun, and relax out on the beach or doing errands without anyone being the wiser.
  • Brown Sugar: Brown sugar is a great exfoliant. Not just for below the neck, but also the scalp. To ensure a healthy base for your roots to grow from, take some brown sugar, coconut oil, lavender essential oils and mix equally. Massage into your scalp and leave for half an hour. Your hair will smell great and scalp will love you after you have washed it out with warm water.
  • Honey and lemon: Not just good for the vocal cords but for the hair as well. Take equal parts honey and milk, stir and add 1/3 cup of lemon juice. Pour all over your head and massage it in. If you want to lighten your hair naturally while nourishing it, lay out in the sun with this in your hair. Killing two birds with one stone!
  • Cocoa powderIf you are a brunette and want to give you hair a little something extra in the color department, without all the nasty chemicals hair dyes come with, try using cocoa powder. A combination of cocoa powder, plain yogurt, honey and apple cider vinegar will give you a subterranean, richer brown color.
  • Oh yeah, Purple Kool-Aid: Don’t worry blondes, I have a trick for you that avoids the chemical department as well. If you have brassy hair, rinse it out with grape flavored Kool-aid. Follow the instructions on the Kool-aid packet and drown your hairs in the purple goodness. Not just great for the taste buds but the locks too! A few Pinterest ladies have said that their hair has not gone purple and the brassiness in their hair disappeared.
  • Aspirin and Baking Soda: With products, outside factors and different shampoos and conditioners, residue and product buildup can dull your hair. The cure is as unassuming as crushing an aspirin and adding it to shampoo. Once you have crushed the aspirin add a small amount of shampoo and lather your head. Apparently, the salicylic acid in aspirin helps remove buildup your hair gets from everyday doings and restores shine. You can do this every other two weeks. You can also try adding a tablespoon of baking soda to the shampoo as well. Lather and repeat as you would with the aspirin.

I hope you enjoyed this as much as I did!
xoxo

Hey, guys! I’m so thrilled to be contributing to this amazing blog, Royally Pink. Briana touches upon so many things girl-related, and thank goodness for her, because if this didn’t exist I’d probably be in the dark about most makeup and clothes. Anyway, this post is dedicated to a facial detox I stumbled upon at the one and only Marshals. I tend to find hidden gems in Marshals, TJ Maxx, Homegoods, you know, stores like that. Even if you don’t have a Marshals or TJ Maxx depending on where you’re from, you know the kind of store I’m talking about.

There’s so many little, crafty-items and home décor to choose from in stores such as these, it kind of becomes overwhelming when shopping. However, I notice most people don’t pay as much attention as they should to the overstocked face washes and makeup at these places; TRUST me when I say that you can find very expensive, well known items at a VERY cheap price.

This leads me to the hidden gem I found. It’s the totally natural Charcoal Facial Detox that’s from a little, unknown boutique called Destiny Boutique. It encourages you to read the label because it is also entirely eco-friendly and biodegradable that’s made of stone, that’s right, no trees are used! This hidden gem, in particular, is only made locally- it is not imported from anywhere. Interesting, right? Well, this is precisely what makes this all-natural ingredient based detox a true diamond in the rough.

It looks like a mud mask when you squeeze it into the palm of your hand, but it still somehow feels like a face wash. You rub it on and although your face looks much dirtier when applying (ha), the ironic twist is, it is actually unclogging your pores on the spot. You know those facial washes that might make you feel like you’re doing right by your skin, but it actually is drying it out and before you know it you’re acne is dried out but your face is red and itchy? Yeah, well this not only dries up your acne at the surface, but it still balances a nice moisturizer that does NOT, I repeat, does NOT dry your skin at all, what-so-ever. You’re skin simply feels clean, and productive because you already start seeing a difference the second you use it.

The only thing you need to be careful of is not to use this before going to the beach or staring straight into the sun. A product such as this (which warns you on the label), increases the skins sensitivities. You need to give your face some time to take it all in before exposing it to high UV lighting.

Anyway, the point of sharing this all with you is because I feel so passionate about how great my skin feels! Whether it’s that time or the month or not, you’d NEVER know it because of how good of a product this is that I never thought I’d find!

I don’t know about you, but finding a gem like this is way easier than the dating department. So Check out your local store! You might find your own, hidden gem!

It’s time to upgrade your look for fall! One quick and fashionable way to do so? Take your go-to pair of skinny jeans or your favorite skirt, and pair it with a put-together top and blazer combo.

Play up your girly style! Give spring pinks a fresh update, making them fall-appropriate. Layer a bright magenta top underneath a cozy, light pink jacket. Pair them with a leather miniskirt for a look that’s begging to be caught on camera.

Shown: Silk Long Sleeve Blouse in Pink ($49.90, Uniqlo) ♦ Wool Cardigan With Funnel Collar in Light Pink ($99.90, Zara)

Look chic, while still giving off a chill vibe. Pair an edgy moto jacket with a fun baseball tee.

Shown: Cool Garfield Baseball Tee in White/Navy ($15.80, Forever 21) ♦ Renegade Moto Jacket in Black ($88, Nasty Gal)

Add a touch of preppiness to a classic Americana look, by topping a chambray shirt with a plaid blazer. Add a pair of bold, heavier-framed glasses for a quirky touch.

Shown: Denim Shirt in Light Denim Blue ($24.95, H&M) ♦ Blazer in Check Multi ($88.99, ASOS)

Polka-dots in navy and white are a playful look for fall. Freshen up the look by adding a crisp, cobalt blazer.

Shown: Fitted Boyfriend Shirt in Fox Print ($54.95, Gap) ♦ Jade Colour Block Blazer in Cobalt ($50, boohoo.com

Unleash your inner animal! Your first instinct probably wouldn’t be to pair an animal print sweat with a furry teddy-bear-esque jacket. But this look is more than just super cozy. Its mix of animal-inspired textures is actually very fashion-forward.

Shown: Knitted 3D Leopard Jumper in Multi ($76, Topshop) ♦ Browne Jacket in Sand ($120, RVCA)

Take a fashion cue from Rihanna (or Rita Ora) with this glam, yet edgy, look.Start with a “wild” graphic shirt. Top it with an in-your-face, 90’s jacket to give off a rocker chic vibe.

It’s tons of fun when you start texting your crush. However, it can also be very confusing. Guys have some pretty baffling texting habits. I have your solutions.

Flaky Texting

You’ve been texting a guy, and sometimes he responds...but sometimes he doesn’t. What’s a girl to do?

Well, if you have been the one initiating most of the texting, it’s time to let him take the lead. By initiating conversation so often, you’ve already given him plenty of reassurance about your interest. Now, it’s his turn to exert some effort. It isn’t fair to you if you are spending more time on a guy than he is devoting to you. It can be aggravating as you wait to see if he makes the move, so distract yourself by having fun with friends. Soon, you’ll have a clear idea of how he feels, based on his actions when it’s all left up to him!

When He Stops Replying

You meet a guy, and he seems interested in you. Problem is, you always are the one texting him. Maybe your friends point out that you’re coming across as “desperate,” so you stop and never hear from him. Or perhaps you add him on Facebook, get a message from him, and he never responds to your reply. Any girl would be confused here. Does he like you or not?!

First, know that it is perfectly acceptable for the girl to make the first move. But if the guy isn’t responding how you expect him to, then it is also completely understandable for you to move on. Guys like this send really mixed signals. They make some effort, but just not a lot of it. And if he’s leaving you wanting more, then that minimal amount of effort simply doesn’t cut it. In situations like these, you need to move on if you end up questioning his interest in you.

He Doesn’t Follow Through

He kissed you. It’s been 24 hours, and you haven’t heard from him. What does it mean?

It is quite possible that your kissing partner is refraining from texting you, out of fear of looking too desperate. In this case, he will probably wait a couple of days before making contact. Guys get just as nervous about texting us, as we do about texting them. Another possibility is that he likes you, but has no clue what to say. However, if a week goes by and you haven’t heard from him, you need to assume that you were just a hookup to him. It’s time to move on.

Fall Fashion is fabulous! This summer in Beverly Hills I attended a makeup preview at Saks Fifth Avenue, and I absolutely fell in love with the Chanel Fall Collection. Military Greens are BACK, and I could not be more ecstatic. The collection is an eye pallet of darker shades, with blushes that POP, and "Les Vernis" nail polishes.

The collection of the Limited Edition Les Ombres Quadra Eye Shadow is a beautiful way to prepare for any event. The smokey look is posh, yet conservative at the same time. I love the smokey eyed look, which is simple to do with the pallet of four colors.

The fall collection is offering a new and improved formula, Le Blush Creme de Chanel. This blush is a new formula, which is simple to apply. All one has to do is apply the blush to the tips of their fingers or a brush, and the cream colour immediately appears as soft, but vibrant for incredible luminosity.

Cat EYES are in! Chanel's fall waterproof lasting eyeliner is perfect to create the best cat eye. MEOW!

Finally, Les Vernis Nail Colors are essential to any wardrobe. The nail polish is smooth, dries quickly, and it is easy to fix any mistake (which I always tend to make).

I am ecstatic to have guest posted today! Feel free to subscribe to my blog www.livinlikelarz.com for giveaways, to read more about my summer in Hollywood, and styling adventures!
