Manicure Monday: Sally Hansen x LoveShackFancy

 I'm a sucker for a collaboration, especially when it features one my favorite brands. LoveShackFancy has been killing the collaboration game lately and I've been loving them all, even if I don't indulge in a purchase. 

I saw a few weeks ago that they were coming out with another Sally Hansen collection but this time, with actual polishes instead of press ons. I was immediately intrigued and then like most things nowadays, I completely forgot about it. 

That is until I went to CVS for a few things and saw the polishes front and center in the store. It was fate and I immediately picked the shade Rosy Quartz which is a milky pink with an iridescent sheen.

Manicure Monday: Matte Edition

If you haven't noticed, matte is all the rage. Whether it's your face, lips, or now nails...matte is in. I personally love of how matte looks. I think it looks much more old Hollywood glamour and just so gorgeous. 

I love a good highlight, dewy glow on your face every so often but matte works for everyday. Also, I am never a fan of lip gloss so give me a matte lip any day!

A few years ago, I had a matte nail polish in a hot pink shade and I didn't really understand it (I was in high school and my makeup knowledge was minimal). I tried putting a top coat over it and it just messed up the look. 

I did however, really love how it looked when I didn't apply to top coat and it was a true matte finish. 

I haven't been able to find a good matte polish (aside from matte topcoats which I desperately need in my life) but finally, I saw a new matte polish on Instagram and immediately purchased it.

Sally Hansen has a new line called "Velvet Texture" and the polishes only cost $2.99..can you say STEAL?! When I was making an online Ulta purchase, I checked to see if these polishes were in stock since they didn't have them at my local drugstore and to my surprise, they were.

I bought the "Lavish" color, which is a deep, vampy purple. I don't have any polishes this color and I've been looking to get one so this was the perfect opportunity.

My nails were pretty banged up from the gel manicure removal so the application of this wasn't as smooth as I would like but I worked with it and it came out pretty good. I used my Sally Hansen base coat to give me a smoother surface and it worked fine.




I LOVED the matte finish. It felt so sophisticated and nice to not have a shiny color. I didn't apply a top coat (really need a matte top coat in my life) and it lasted with no chips for about 2-3 days. I applied some polish over the chips and it was good for another 2-3 days. That's pretty standard for my nails but it was nice to know that a matte finish polish can stand up just the same.

I REALLY want more colors...possibly the navy blue one? Hopefully my local CVS or Rite Aid has these in stock now.

Manicure Monday

I feel that sparkly nails are very "in" right now and I have jumped on the band wagon. Actually, I've been on the band wagon for a while now. I love a good sparkly polish but the fact that it's so difficult to take off really turns me off.

I can't resist sometimes, especially when it's New Years Eve...the sparkliest holiday of them all!

Last week, for NYE, I tried something a little different. I just painted the tips of my nails in a sparkle topcoat instead of the entire nail. It wasn't complicated at all and I liked the look a lot better.



I used my trusty Sally Hansen "Strobe-light" sparkle topcoat paired with my brand new bottle of Essie "Bahama Mama."

My local Rite Aid has had more Essie in stock and I'm super stoked about it. "Bahama Mama" looked like a deep purple in the bottle but when I applied two coats of it, it had a more burgundy color. I liked it but I wish I would've known before because I would've bought a different color. 

This was definitely one of my favorite nail choices, I loved how the sparkles didn't cover the entire nail, it made it look better in my eyes.

Manicure Monday

Manicures are the best way to relax and take your mind off of everything going on in your life. 

I change my polish probably twice a week and why should this week be any different?



This week's manicure is full of Sally Hansen; an Invisible top coat, "Grey Area" for the base, and then "Strobe Light", on my index and ring finger.

"Grey Area" is exactly how it sounds: a strong, grey color while "Strobe Light" is a glitter topcoat. It's not one specific color but a rainbow of different colors of glitter.



I rarely use Sally Hansen but every time I do, I always forget how wonderful the formula is. It's a nice strong polish that is perfect with only two coats. Also, Sally Hansen isn't as expensive as Essie and they have such a great variety of colors right in the drugstore of your choice.

Nail Polish Galore

I took a trip to Five Below last weekend and was surely shocked by all the goodies they had. Five Below, for those of you who don't know is a store where everything is $5 and below.

I thought that it would be cheap, bad quality goods like a 99 cent store but I was really wrong.

I bought some baskets, an umbrella, a William and Kate book, and Sally Hansen Salon Effects Nail Polish strips.

I have been looking at these strips for a while, ever since they came out but I was very skeptical of them. They are pretty expensive at $8 a box but they are so cute! 

At Five Below, the strips were $4 so I took the chance and purchased pink polka dot nail polish strips.



I had them in my draw for a week and finally used them today. They are a little complicated to use, especially because I am not crafty and my hand coordination with anything that requires a straight line is terrible.

Despite my lack of artistic gene, I put the strips on my nails anyway and was proven correct..they came out horribly.

In the package, there are 15 strips of all different sizes and shapes to fit to your nails; also, a cuticle stick and buffer/nail file is included.

It took me a lot longer to put the strips on than painting my nails because I had to cut down the strips to a perfect size so it didn't look messy or bumpy.




I was stupid in the sense that I took a shower a few hours after putting the strips on and some of them became deformed but still remained in good shape.


In the end, I thought the nails were okay looking but they felt wrong. It actually felt like stickers or tape were on my nails and it felt very unnatural. I didn't like the feeling; I much prefer nail polish.

I removed the strips with nail polish remover and they were slightly difficult to get off but when they did, my nails were very smooth. I then painted my nails with regular polish, one of my favorites, Essie "Master Plan", a greyish color.



I do like the strips and would probably buy another package but they do take a lot of patience to put on and you must push your cuticles back and file your nails down to size.
