Beauty in Review: Billion Dollar Brows

I don't consider myself a true trendy person. There are always some trends in the beauty and fashion world that I don't like and won't jump on. My mom has always told me "but it's in style" when showing me a new style jacket or jean and I just don't buy it.

I'm so original ;)

But in reality, I do like to follow certain trends and one of my favorite trends of lately (the past year or so) has been big, bold brows.

I'm Italian and graced with thick and unruly hair...and that includes my eyebrows. Since I was 12 years old, I've gotten my eyebrows waxed and threaded to keep them in shape. I never have them too thin but it's refreshing to see big eyebrows in style.

I've been experimenting with doing my brows whenever I do my makeup and it really does help me feel and look more put together.

When doing your brows, you always need the right tools and I've been on the hunt for the perfect brow pencil, highlight and gel and everything in between.

When I got the chance to review the "Billion Dollar Brows Best Seller Kit", I was so excited because it was everything you need right in one, easy set.


The set comes with four products; BDB Universal Brow Pencil, that claims it can work for the lightest or darkest hair, BDB Brow Gel, a highlight and concealer duo pencil, and a smudge brush. 


I received the kit a few weeks ago but wanted to give myself time to actually use the products and give a good review.


Well, I have to say this stuff is awesome.

-The Universal Brow Pencil is a light brown shade but you can press harder to create a more dramatic color. The pencil is good; it's a little loose in the packaging so its hard to get a grip but I've been hunting for a good brow pencil and this is really good. The best thing is that there is a spoolie brush on the other end of the pencil which makes combing and taming my brows really easy.

The brow pencil allows you to fill in your brows and create whatever kind of look you want, whether it's really bold or just a simple look.

-The brow gel I just began using and the brush is a little odd to work with but after a few tries it should be fine. It's not too thick or too thin, it's a pretty good consistency and it's one of the few brow gels that really keeps everything in place.

-I haven't used the smudge brush yet but I'm excited to use it in different ways. It's a really soft, flat top brush that is supposed to be used to blend the brow pencil. It can be used to apply eyeliner and eyeshadow and I'm super excited to try it out.
-The concealer/highlight duo pencil is also something I just started using. I haven't tried the concealer yet but the highlight end of the pencil....OHMYGOD. I've used a few brow highlights in my day but this, this is the creamiest, lightest highlighter. It applies like a dream and you only need a little bit to make your brow bone sparkle. It's not shimmery but just light enough to give you extra spunk.

I really really love this kit. It gives you the ability to perfect your brows and give you the exact look you want. It retails for $34.99 at Khol's.

Beauty in Review: Maybelline

Last week I ran out of everything: mascara, foundation, eyebrow pencil. My make up bag was crying and I was pretty much faceless. 



I ran to CVS and stalked the beauty aisle until I found my lovely FIT Me Stick Foundation by Maybelline. I decided to purchase one shade darker than I usually do and it made a hint of a difference in my routine. Instead of getting Natural Beige 220, I got Natural Buff 230. It's a little bit darker but definitely covers up more. 

Then I was searching for mascaras that would satisfy my needs. I've been in a love/hate relationship with mascaras lately (that's a whole other post) and was in want and need of a simple lash curler that I could rock during the day. I ended up choosing trusty pink and green, Maybelline's Great Lash. 



Then came the search for an eyebrow pencil. CVS surprisingly was running very, very low in the pencil market. I couldn't find any from any beauty brand! Maybelline came in clutch once again and I bought a package of two brown eyebrow pencils. They aren't the greatest but they will do for now.

I lost my red lipstick months ago and have been in the market for a new one since. I thought I'd stick with my Maybelline trend and purchased this gorgeous color titled Red Revival. It is the perfect shade of winter red, not too fire truck but a deep wine.



I usually am not brand loyal when it comes to make-up. I stick with what I like and mix brands all the time. Maybelline seems to have been on their A-game recently or I wouldn't have thought to pick up all these goodies!

August Ipsy Glam Bag

Sorry for being MIA yesterday; it's been a tough first week of classes.

This is a very late post but my editorial calendar for the blog has been jam packed.

Earlier this month I received my last Ipsy Glam Bag; after some much needed cutting back on my spending habits, Ipsy and Birchbox both lost. If I do renew one of these subscription boxes down the line, it will be Birchbox--I just enjoy it better.

But, my last Ipsy bag was a great one! It was a "Glamour Academy" themed bag and I think this might've been by favorite little bag yet.





Purple and gold are one of my favorite color combinations and I love the little Ipsy insignia that this one displayed.

1. Michael Todd Charcoal Scrub



The first product I received was a Michael Todd Charcoal Scrub. I used it for the first time last week and it was strange. It wasn't a cleanser as I previously thought it was; you just rubbed the scrub into your skin AFTER you used your regular cleanser. It made my skin feel dirty but I did notice a slight difference in the morning when I woke up. I'll have to try it again. I was happy with the size of this; it wasn't a foil packet but a hearty sample size which is always nice.

2. Chella Eyebrow Pencil


I've received another Chella product a few months back, a Chella highlighter pencil. This month another Chella pencil made it's way into my Ipsy bag; the brown eyebrow pencil is a little thin for my liking and I'm just learning how to properly tame my eyebrows but it's a great quality pencil that has been working good! This was the only full size sample in my bag as these eye pencils usually are.

3. Mica Eyeshadow in Bronze


I have yet to use this bronze eyeshadow because with the hot weather, I haven't used much eyeshadow. Also these loose powders scare me and I never really use them too much because they sometimes are too pigmented and they are so messy. With the cooler weather approaching, I will definitely get back into the swing of things and use eyeshadow more regularly and this will be first on my list. This was a tiny sample but I definitely think it'll be enough to use and see if I like. 

4. Pixi Lash Booster Mascara



Another product in my bag that I haven't used yet; the brush is ultra thick and it seems like great formula so I'm excited to try this out. With unpacking and getting settled in my room, I keep forgetting I have these awesome beauty products! This was a typical sample size mascara, not too big but enough that it could give you a month or so use. 

5. Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick





My goodness, I was so thrilled when I found that this would be in my Ipsy bag. I love Urban Decay and was so excited to try out this new lipstick collection. It was a very tiny, tiny sample but I didn't care! The shade I got was very pink and very pigmented, not sheer in the slightest. It may even be a little too pink for me but the formula is wonderful; it's smooth and moisturizing and not sticky. I will definitely be using this more, even if the color is a bit strong!

Ipsy will be missed but this was one heck of a way to go out!

Ipsy June Glam Bag Review

It's that time of the month again! My Ipsy Glam Bag arrived in the mail last week and I had been so anxious to receive this bag. I took a sneak peek the minute the website let me and I was so happy!



I am obsessed with the fact that this month's bag was a wild, leopard print. I don't know if it's my Queens/Brooklyn roots that draw me to the leopard but I love a good animal print. 

All the products featured in my bag this month were full sized which was such a wonderful surprise. The fact that I'm getting great quality products in a full size for just $10 a month astounds me. How is this possible?!

I'm not going to question it, though, Ipsy is great! 

Aside from one product, everything in the bag is useful to me and I'm really happy with.




This full sized lip pencil comes in a beautiful pink shade. It has a coral tint and goes on really smooth. I don't use lip liner a lot so I gave this to my mom but I stole a few uses. Put it this way, I should've never given it up--it's too beautiful and perfect.




I was in desperate need of a new blush so I was thrilled when I saw this came in my bag! It is the perfect pink shimmer shade; it looks similar to NARS Orgasm. It goes on really nice, a little goes a long way with this blush. The formula and texture is really smooth too so it stays nice all day.




This is the one product I don't really care for. I didn't try it out yet but in my opinion, I won't really need it for anything. I haven't worn a great deal of eyeshadow in the past few months and I definitely wouldn't choose to wear glitter shadow. Maybe this won't be as glittery as it looks but I doubt it. Maybe I'll use it for Halloween, or give it to Ke$ha.




I haven't gotten the chance to use this yet but I'm excited too! There is a built in brush with this creamy, gel eyeliner which makes it easier. The purple color isn't too bright or too dark, it's perfect for a summer or winter look. I've been looking for a good, liquid/gel eyeliner so hopefully this won't disappoint!



This was probably my favorite product in the glam bag. I love eyebrow products and combining that with highlighter product is a match made in heaven. The pencil works really well to add a little more arch to your eyebrows and it brightens the brow bone. For the past week, I haven't left the house without using this pencil.

This June bag has officially sealed the deal; I am in love with Ipsy.
