Showing posts with label February favorites

The shortest month of the year is over and honestly, it feels like it was super long. I'm not ready to say goodbye to winter but realistically, it probably won't warm up for another few months.

The entire month feels like a little bit of a blur; I saw some friends and accomplished a few things but truthfully, it was a really low time for me. I was having daily panic attacks, feeling nervy every morning and night and just overall felt unlike myself. I think I'm starting to come out of it which is good since the next few months are going to be busy and social.

As I've mentioned before, I was trying to do a low-buy year but this month I failed epically. I just couldn't do it; I was too anxious and stressed to not use shopping as a coping mechanism so I've come to love a few new items.

Here's what I loved this month - some new, some old but all perfect.

It is officially almost one year since the world fell apart and I'm not sure how to feel about it. That is definitely a different conversation for a different post but wow, it's crazy how fast we got here. February felt like it flew by and so much happened, I feel like I have whiplash.

We're officially leaving winter behind and saying hello to spring, which has me feeling indifferent. I'm semi excited about the warm weather but as the resident cold weather lover, I'm sad to see it go. I guess it means we're just one step closer to next fall & winter!

All that being said, I feel like I didn't 'love' a lot of items this month; I of course 'liked' a bunch of stuff but nothing truly worth mentioning here. I took a back seat from shopping which has honestly felt really good and I think I'll continue to limit myself in small ways. It's something I really struggle with and really want to tackle.

Most of these items are new and purchased well before Lent started and I stopped shopping.

*If you didn't know, I gave up shopping for Lent. Lent is the time between Ash Wednesday and Holy Thursday and in the Catholic religion, it's common that you give something up to symbolize Jesus' sacrifices while he traveled through the desert. I am not a really religious person but I do identify as Catholic and I enjoy being spiritual; I always try to participate in Lent in some aspect so what better time to test out not online shopping?

Macbook Air 13 Inch

After Christmas I knew I needed a new laptop. My old one was a Macbook 11 inch from 2016 and I was in desperate need of an upgrade. I use my laptop constantly, like most of us do, and I just wanted a better computer. I couldn't use iMovie and constantly needed to delete items off the hard drive because the storage was shot. I knew I was going to get a Macbook, just didn't know the model or size. After some research I decided on the Macbook Air, 2020 version, in Gold (it literally looks rose gold and is beautiful) and got the 13 inch.

My work laptop is a 15 inch Macbook Pro and since working from home for almost a year, I've gotten very used to it. The 11 inch wasn't working for me anymore as a personal laptop so upgrading to the bigger model has made a huge difference.

I might do an entire post, or video review about the laptop but wow, I am in love. I get very excited over new tech and this laptop is just so much better than my old one, I feel like a new person. I actually enjoy doing mundane things on my computer now and the experience of writing and editing videos is so much better. If you've been putting off upgrading your old Macbooks, I highly recommend doing so now!

Target Marble Tray

This was very much an impulse purchase at the beginning of the month but it is probably one of the best purchases I will ever make. I saw someone on Instagram with this marble serving tray from Target and for $20, I immediately purchased it. The first one came cracked so Target sent me a new one (I got to keep the broken one and it's honestly still usable) and I'm pretty much in love. It's a little smaller than I envisioned and I was stuck on how to use it but then I decided that I would use it as a laptop 'elevator'. I have a wireless mouse and keyboard that I never use but they came in handy for this new setup. I just place my laptop on the tray, on my desk, and use the mouse and keyboard. It has helped my neck, having the laptop a little higher and I don't find myself as sore... but the best part? It finally helped me differentiate between work and 'fun' hours.

Like most people, I've had a hard time separating work and play during the pandemic. I enjoy working at my desk both during work hours and after for my blog & writing. Having two different computers helps set boundaries but it still 'feels' like I'm slaving away at my desk 24/7. The serving tray/laptop shelf has helped my mind realize that this is 'fun' time vs when I have my laptop just on my desk during work hours. Does that make sense?

Also, the marble tray is perfect for decor and as a photo background/prop. It's so versatile and so freaking pretty.

Pellatini Power Crystal Pens

I discovered this company during quarantine, through TikTok and kind of became obsessed. I think they have super cute stuff but the item I was drawn to the most was the crystal pens. They're gold pens with different crystals on the top and all the crystals have different meanings. They''re super nice pens; very heavy in your hand but write really well. The ink isn't too heavy, so it doesn't bleed as your writing -- it's a very simple black pen but they look beautiful on your desk. I have all four pens but am thinking about buying doubles because they're that good.

Maxkare Folding Stationary Bike

This was an after Christmas purchase but it was a necessary one. I really wanted a bike in my house but I had very specific needs; I wanted it to the small and compact, so that it can be folded up and stored away but I also wanted it to be sturdy. I don't have the space for a larger spin bike but I also don't love spinning. When I'm at the gym, I like the bike and elliptical but decided a bike would be better for myself and my mom. I did so much research for months and finally decided this was the bike for me.

It's actually pretty great if you just want something for a light, daily workout. It folds up beautifully, was super easy to put together (my mom and I took maybe an hour to put it together), and is very sturdy. It's also a very quiet bike which was another feature that was important to me. The bike has multiple resistance settings which is great for making your workout a bit more difficult, but I do wish that it had a few more stronger settings.

I use it pretty much everyday for 30 minutes to an hour and it's so enjoyable. I break a sweat, feel like I accomplished something and is just a great addition to my home.

The bike was $120 when I purchased it, and as I'm typing this, looks like it's out of stock on Amazon but MaxKare is a well known exercise equipment brand so it should be available other places. However, here is a similar one.

What did you love this month?

If January was a slow month, February was insanely fast. It just feels like it was Valentine's Day and now we're so close to Spring.

I'm not ready to say goodbye to my beloved winter, but once I start seeing sandals, bright colors, and all things floral, I get a little excited. I feel like I'm betraying fall & winter when I say that.

As we say goodbye to another month, we say hello to the Monthly Muse. I've been on a no buy for most of the month (since Ash Wednesday aka February 14th) so these are just from my existing collection of items.

1. Physician's Formula Depuffer: I talked about this in yesterday's post but I must mention again. It is the best eye depuffer I've ever used, and it's under $10. I'm not a huge drugstore gal, which maybe I can save for another post, but this has quickly become one of my favorite products to ever be found there.

2. Kate Spade SmartWatch: This was the last big purchase before I went on my no buy and it was well worth it. I pre-ordered it in January and it arrived the first week of February. I have NOT taken it off and loved every minute with this. It's basically the Kate Spade version of the Apple Watch. I'm planning a huge post on it later this month but it's sure to be one of my favorite purchases of the entire year.

3. Target Magazine Rack: This is so random but it's a massive favorite. I've been wanting to get my desk more organized and I saw someone on Instagram use a magazine rack to put notebooks and papers in. I have SO MANY notebooks, too many, for a variety of different things. I stored them in my desk drawer but this makes it so much easier to see everything and they get a lot more use. It was under $15 at Target and it adds a really nice touch to my desk area.

4. Art Prints: I added two new prints to my gallery wall this month; a New York print that has all the different NY publication fonts, and one that says "Eat Sleep Blog Repeat". They're true to my writing roots and add a nice piece of inspiration to my walls.

5. Emergen-C: With the flu epidemic being so bad this year, and traveling on the gross New York City subway, I constantly feel like I'm getting sick. I never wanted to take Emergen C because I was afraid of what it tasted like. However, once I did try it I became obsessed! It takes like Sunny-D (do they still make that?!) and now I try to have a glass every morning. I've also been obsessed with Orange Juice this month so maybe I have low Vitamin C?

February is my least favorite month because it's the end of winter (thankfully since NYC has been in a second Ice Age for the entire mont) and it's super short.

Everyone always says the month flew by but February really does FLY BY. I feel like I did a lot and a lot happened in February but at the same time, the days are a blur. So weird.

Anyways...

At the start, I didn't feel like I had too many favorites—my mind automatically goes to beauty products but once I got to thinking, I realized there were a few things I was using more or rediscovered this month.

However, I haven't read any new books, watched any new television shows, or got any new accessories that I've been obsessing over, which is quite sad. I need to take note of new things to put in my favorites next month!

Enough rambling, let's dive right in.

Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette: I won't go into full detail since I already did a review but it's incredible.I have not used another eyeshadow palette all month.  I cannot get enough, I won't let it out of my sight, I'm OBSESSED.

Too Faced Powder Foundation: I want to mention this in a future Too Faced haul + review but I found this for $10 at Nordstrom Rack and it was like a sign. I've been searching for a good powder foundation, since I have never owned any and was curious. It's really soft and blends really nicely, as well. It's light to medium coverage but you can build it up. I got the shade 'Perfect Nude' and I'd say it matches me pretty great. It's still on the TooFaced website for a whopping $32 so I feel so great knowing I got a steal. I've been wearing it on my "no makeup makeup" days or for work, I'll layer it over my Maybelline Fit Me stick foundation (or wear alone).

MyFitnessPal: This is the one new app I've been using in relation with my JawboneUp. It's super easy to use, has nutritional information for every food you can imagine, and syncs with my JawboneUp app so it makes tracking calories a lot easier.

GoneGreek Sweatshirt: I did a review and hosted a giveaway for this bad boy earlier in the month and I have hardly taken it off (expect to wash of course). It's so soft, so warm, and I'm so happy I got the navy. It's not black but still dark enough that I feel comfortable wearing it (I'm weird and love only dark sweatshirts).

Ugg Ear Muffs: I've never been a huge fan of ear muffs but a few Christmases ago, my grandma bought me a pair of black Ugg ear muffs that have headphones built in (of course I lost the wire) and I never really bothered with them. That is, until I rediscovered them this cold season. I don't leave the house without them; they keep me insanely warm on my morning commute and when I'm running errands. I like them better than wearing a hat, even though that may be smarter, and because they're black, they go with everything!

Udis Gluten Free Bread: This is a weird one. I may do a post on "going gluten free" but for now, I'll mention this. My dad has celiac disease so he can't digest gluten therefore I've been around gluten free food forever. This month, I made the decision to attempt to go gluten free because I eat way too many carbs and figured this had something to do with me being very tired and having constant stomach pains. My dad mentioned this bread was the best so in the frozen section of my Keyfood, I found it and have been loving it! I use it for my lunch at work (I bring peanut butter everyday, don't judge me!) and it's really hearty; it keeps my full and even though it's smaller than the average sliced bread, it's really hearty.

Let me know if you'd like to see a gluten free post!

Anyways, those are my favorites! Here's to March going a bit slower than February did!
