It's time for my annual yearly favorites round up and I'm so excited to talk about everything I loved this year. 2023 was a big transitional period for me; my mental health was up & down, I had new experiences and stepped outside my comfort zone a bit, and I moved into my first big girl apartment.
2023 felt like a rebirth of some sorts; I realized the person I want to be, recognized the goals I want to accomplish, and did some soul searching to figure out what I really want out of my life.
I don't want this to turn into a 2023 recap, that's coming next week so enough of the babble... let's get into the good stuff.
My shopping was toned down in 2023 but beauty still remained supreme in my interests. I think 2023 was the year of finding my groove with the beauty industry again. If you read and follow me, you know that I've been in the beauty industry as my day job for the past 8 years; I used to think I wanted to get out of the industry but this year really reaffirmed for me how much I love it and it really is my passion, and where I belong.
Both as a professional and a consumer I think this year was good for me. I learned a lot, started to pay more attention to colors, textures, and formulas I love and was a little more intentional with my purchases.
As I said before, my shopping was toned down in terms of impulse spending but I still achieved VIB Rouge status at Sephora so how good could I have been? I also explored a lot of new to me products from the brands that Estee Lauder Companies own, and that I get a discount on so that was exciting.
That being said, these are my favorite beauty products of 2023
Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Stick
Back in 2015 I was a foundation stick addict. It was the only type of foundation I bothered to use because of the ease of application and coverage it provided. I fell off of the stick foundation train as the trend faded into the background but this year I discovered a new favorite. The Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Stick has been around for ages and after lusting over it in the Estee Lauder Company Store for weeks, I finally picked it up. I have hardly worn anything else in the past 6 months. I'm addicted. It's easy to apply, medium to full coverage, lasts all day, and truly evens out your skin without giving you a cakey look. It might be my favorite foundation of all time. If you're in the market for a new foundation that is easy to apply and looks flawless, I cannot recommend the Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Stick enough.
Shark FlexStyle Hair Styler
I ended 2022 with sharing a Dyson Air Wrap with my mom and sister and truly it just wasn't for me. I wasn't using all the attachments and couldn't get the hang of curling my hair for it. However, I did like having the options of interchangeable brushes so I figured the Shark FlexStyle was the next best thing...and it was. This changed my hair game in 2023 and I'm grateful for it. I bought it during the Sephora sale in April and used it religiously every time I did my hair. I am someone who does not know how to blow my hair with a regular dryer so blow dry brushes have been a saving grace for me the past few years. While I am mostly just using the paddle and round brushes to dry and style my hair, I am starting to experiment with the smoother & curling attachments. I recently did my hair with just the curling attachments and once I got the hang of it, it was pretty seamless. If you want the look and feel of the Dyson Air Wrap without the hefty price tag, the Shark FlexStyle will work perfectly for you.
Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum
2022 was the year that I started working for Estee Lauder and 2023 is the year I realized the beauty and importance of our most iconic product, Advanced Night Repair Serum. It has the benefits of 7 serums in 1, and truly gives you a well rested look so even if you haven't gotten a good night's sleep you still look like you did. It firms, strengthens, hydrates, and evens your skin while providing anti-oxidant protection, reducing the look of fine lines, and diminishing the appearance of pores over time. This is the one beauty product I never skip using...no matter how tired I am. My skin is noticeably healthier, more radiant and even when I use it and when I go a few days without applying this serum, my skin looks noticeably different. It's probably my favorite beauty product of all time, not just of the year.
Too Faced Better Than Sex Chocolate Mascara
I don't think I used another beauty product in 2023 more than the Better Than Sex Chocolate Mascara. My favorite mascara of all time got a chocolately makeover this year and I couldn't stop using it. I never used brown mascara before this but it gives the most natural, beautiful, long lashes with just a touch of color. I raved about it in this Beauty in Review post if you want to read more... but really, if you want a new mascara that is wearable for everyday you can't go wrong with this one.
Olive & June
This is a catch all item because I can't choose just one item that I used from Olive & June that was my favorite this year. 2023 was the year I abandoned all other nail polish brands and exclusively stuck to Olive & June. From their quick dry polishes, to traditional long lasting, and their nail care items, I couldn't get enough of this female founded nail polish brand. They truly have the best formulas, products, and branding on the market...with unique colors and continued innovation. If you have never tried Olive & June, let 2024 be the year!
