Showing posts with label thrillers

There are a few authors who I will read anything they write, no matter what and Riley Sager is one of them. Whenever Sager has a new book coming out, I immediately add it to my TBR and I'm excited to dig my feet into it when it is released.

The Only One Left is his latest novel that was released on June 20th and I had it as a Book of the Month choice. I finally read it (because I barely read anything in June and July) this month and I think I can confidently say this is my favorite Riley Sager book yet. It has so many incredible elements of the thriller genre without being over the top.

If you love thrillers, if you love Riley Sager, you will love The Only One Left.

I've been on a French kick lately; I want French everything and want to immerse myself in French culture. That's been reflected in my reading and when you combine thrillers with the chic, French country side you get the thrilling story of The Chateau by Jaclyn Goldis.

The Chateau is being released on May 23rd, 2023 but I had an ARC from Netgalley and read it last month. It was riveting, surprising, and maddening in all the best ways.

There hasn't been a Riley Sager book yet that I didn't like and this was not the exception. I was waiting with bated breath for the release of "The House Across the Lake" and since I got denied for an ARC from Netgalley, I had to wait until June 21st to read it.

Well, I ate it up in a few days and while the book has been met with controversial, mixed opinions, I enjoyed it... even if it was a little out there. The thing that people didn't like about this book was that they felt it was too similar to another book and that it kind of jumped the shark a bit in terms of a twisty ending.

I was fine with both aspects so let's get right into the review.

I read The Family Upstairs back in 2019 before it was released and loved it. When I found out that Lisa Jewell was writing a sequel to the story, I was immediately sold. I didn't know where the story could go since The Family Upstairs was so enticing and really told the whole back story, but I knew I trusted Lisa Jewell and I was going to read The Family Remains.

Lucky for me I was able to receive an ARC from Net Galley and immediately started reading. I was not disappointed in the slightest and you pick up right where Jewell left us last.

I will admit that I had a hard time remembering what happened in the first book since it had been two years since I last read it so if you've been wanting to read The Family Upstairs I recommend reading these back to back so the story is fresh in your mind.

Despite that, I really enjoyed this book and felt it added a nice wrap-up to the original story.

This book won't be released until August 17th but I couldn't wait for my review. You need to pre-order this novel now, and make sure it's on your TBR. Go ahead, add it to your Goodreads, I'll wait.

Ok, all set? Great!

If you love true crime, like REAL true crime, like Dateline, 20/20, true crime podcasts, this book is for you. It's a fictitious story with real life flair, all which will satisfy your true crime addiction. "The Family Plot" by Megan Collins is your next great read.

I received the ARC from NetGalley and finished the book within 24 hours, as usual. Side note: I am flying through books lately. This week alone I've finished three books... it's really becoming a problem.
