I've been dealing with a fussy scalp since I was a teenager. For years, I struggled with dandruff, itchy scalp, and just an all over uncomfortable feeling. I've tried tons of products, both medicated and over the counter... and nothing really helps.

There are a few products that I use to keep my scalp healthy, that are tried and true, so I'll do a post dedicated to that hair routine but this post is all about one miracle product that relieves the itchiness between washes.

That was a major issue for me -- no matter how clean my hair was or how healthy my scalp was, the itchiness was there. I would scratch my head until it bled... I couldn't get it under control.

Enter Mizani.

I was on Sephora's website a while back, saw this new brand pop up, and it intrigued me. Their products are centered around healthy scalp and good hair care. The moment I saw this product that I'm reviewing today, I knew I had to have it.

The Scalp Care Calming Dry Scalp Lotion (quite a mouthful of a product name) has changed my hair and really restored my scalp to pre-teenage years healthiness. This lotion can be used on any type of hair: straight, wavy, curly, coily... and in all lengths/types -- fine, medium, and thick hair. Everyone can use this lotion and if you have an itchy scalp, I definitely recommend it!

Why Should You Use The Dry Scalp Lotion

If you are someone who struggles with having an itchy, dry scalp that needs extra moisture aside from a shampoo, conditioner, or hydrating hair mask, this is what you've been looking for. It's a lotion that you just squeeze onto your scalp, rub in and you're done.

You can use it on clean or dirty hair (I've done it on both) and I don't find that it leaves my hair feeling or looking greasy. It really absorbs into your scalp fairly quickly and leaves you with a better feeling head!

What's In the Scalp Lotion?

The Mizani Scalp Lotion is formulated with your usual culprits: Aloe Vera, Avocado Oil, and Eucalyptus. All of these ingredients are meant to soothe, moisturize, and calm your dry scalp. When you apply it to your scalp, it definitely has a tingling or cooling sensation which feels amazing. However, if you do ever have cuts on your scalp (from scratching, like I have in the past) it might burn a little but it passes pretty quickly.

How I Use The Lotion

It's fairly simply: whenever my head is exceptionally itchy, I just squeeze a bit of of it onto my head and then rub it in. Within seconds, my head feels so much better and the itchiness is pretty much totally gone. There have been days when my hair is really clean but my scalp is super itchy... a little bit of this lotion goes a long way and it doesn't make my hair appear dirty. I have also used this on my hair right before I get in the shower because my head was just so itchy I couldn't take it anymore.

This lotion is not meant to cure your dry scalp or clean your hair... it is truly a lotion for your scalp. Just as if you would apply lotion to your dry arms and legs, you need to apply lotion to your dry scalp. Scalp skin is just as important as the rest of your body so it's essential that we care for it in the same way.

I can truly say this lotion has changed the way I feel about my hair; as much as I love my long, thick locks, they have also been a source of insecurity. One of the major points of insecurity was an itchy scalp and how I constantly had to excuse myself to scratch my head, which then lead to white flakes falling down (not technically dandruff but just dry, dead skin). When I use this consistently, I don't have the urge to scratch.

I'm really interested to try the other Mizani haircare products, like their Dry Scalp Shampoo and Conditioner. They also have other non dry scalp related products if you're interested!

Are you in need of a product like this?
