Let Me Tell You About...Girls

I don't know about you but I have a new obsession.

HBO's Girls.

Have you been living under a rock? Do you not watch television? If you answered yes to those two questions you probably don't know what "Girls" is. I feel like I can't go one day without hearing or seeing something about "Girls".

"Girls" is about four 20 somethings living in Brooklyn and trying to navigate their way through life with jobs, friendships, and relationships.

It's basically "Sex and the City" for a younger generation without the Manolo Blakniks and with a lot more nudity.

Lena Dunham is a writing genius and is now one of my role models. She is the voice of our generation--her words, not mine, but I completely agree with her.

I can't exactly put my finger on it but there is something completely special about "Girls." It's so raw and real; you look at Hannah, Jessa, Marnie, and Shoshanna and identify with them. Even if you're still in college and not yet dealing with the issues these four women are, you can still see yourself in them.

It might not be the actual stories on the show that get to you but possibly it's Lena Dunham. She is a 26 year old success story; she had hopes and dreams but didn't know how to get there. With enough hard work and determination, she found her way up the ladder and found her home at HBO and found success with "Girls", a story basically about her life.

I think it's something special to watch a show like "Girls", a normal show about normal women. They don't have any special talents, they deal with every day problems, and are completely real. You can relate to them and that's the special thing that connects everyone; that's the reason this show has blown up into a phenomenon.

To me, it's totally empowering, as a woman to see a show like "Girls" and to see someone like Lena Dunham have the success she has had, especially at such a young age. It gives me hope that my dreams and aspirations will come true one day.
